Why does the car's idle speed increase fuel consumption? Why does the car's idle speed increase?

Why does the car's idle speed increase fuel consumption? Why does the car's idle speed increase?

When the car is idling, the gear is in neutral and the engine is idling. The engine speed at this time is generally called the idle speed. Some car dials will display the average fuel consumption. When idling, the fuel consumption seems to be particularly high. So what is the reason?

Why does the car consume high fuel consumption when idling?

Many people think that idling consumes more fuel than driving, but in fact, compared with driving, the fuel consumption at idling is not high.

The main reason is that when calculating the average fuel consumption, the car uses the relationship between the amount of fuel injected and the distance traveled. When we are stuck in a traffic jam, the car moves slowly on the road. At this time, even if it is idling, the car is still injecting fuel. However, the distance traveled by the car is not too far, so the average fuel consumption is naturally higher. We see so many figures displayed because of the calculation rules of the on-board computer.

For a car idling, the fuel consumption under normal circumstances is only between 0.8-1.8 liters per hour. Even if you have money and can idle for an hour continuously, it will only cost you about ten yuan. However, the fuel consumed in one hour of driving is more than ten yuan, so the statement that idling consumes more fuel is not true.

Why does the car idle speed increase?

The main reason for the idle speed to be too high is that the engine intake is too much or the control signal is abnormal when idling.

First check if there is any leakage. You can use your hand to find a rag to cover the throttle. If the engine does not stall at idle speed, there is a leakage and you need to find the leak and repair it.

Common problems include intake air temperature sensor problems, water temperature sensor problems, pressure sensor, throttle position sensor, fuel injector, etc.

If there is carbon deposit on the throttle valve, the idle speed will also become higher, or the stepper valve is not closed tightly.

What is the normal idling speed of a car?

For different models, due to different engines, the idle speed value is also different. The idle speed value is generally in the range of 500-850rpm, and the idle speed at the moment of cold start is 1500-2000rpm per minute. When the engine water temperature returns to 90 degrees, the idle speed remains within the specified stable value.
