What are cooked dumplings like? What changes do dumplings undergo after being cooked?

Dumplings are a common type of pasta. They have a rich flavor and taste great. They are very popular among people. Many people cook dumplings at home. Sometimes dumplings are not cooked well and are easily undercooked. So how do you tell if dumplings are cooked? Let's take a closer look!

How to tell if dumplings are cooked

Generally there are the following characteristics:

1. The dumpling's belly became round and swollen, floating on the water with its belly facing upwards.

2. Press the bulging belly of the dumpling with a spoon or your fingers. If it bounces back, it means the dumplings are cooked.

3. The simplest and most brutal way is to pick up the dumpling directly after the above steps of observation, open it with chopsticks, and see if there is still a white core in the dumpling skin. If the color has become transparent, put it in your mouth and try it. You can intuitively feel whether it is transparent the moment you put it in your mouth.

What does uncooked dumplings look like?

There are a few things that may not be right, and the dumplings may not be cooked properly:

1. The amount of cold water added is not quantified. It seems to me that the amount of cold water can be more or less, as if it is a formality.

2. When the dumplings float to the surface, one thing is certain: the dumpling skin is definitely cooked, but it is not certain whether the dumpling filling is cooked.

3. The dumplings we usually eat can be roughly divided into three categories: vegetarian dumplings, mixed dumplings with meat and vegetables, and dumplings with meat only. Take the dumplings with these three different fillings as an example. The cooking time corresponding to different fillings will definitely be slightly different. However, my mother only told me that the dumplings need to be added with cold water three times, and the dumplings will be cooked after the pot is boiled again;

Therefore, I think that if different fillings are cooked using the same method, the vegetarian dumplings may be cooked, the mixed meat and vegetable dumplings have a certain chance of not being cooked, and the all-meat dumplings will definitely not be cooked.

How to cook dumplings

1. Prepare a large-caliber pot, put a proper amount of water and a little salt in it. The water should be enough. Too little water will not make it easy to float and will break. The ratio of water to dumplings is generally 3:1. The purpose of adding salt here is not for seasoning, but when the salt contacts the starch and protein in the dumpling skin, it will play a role in dehydration, so that the dumpling skin becomes tight and does not break.

2. When the water in the pot boils, put in an appropriate amount of dumplings according to the amount of water. Do not pour all of them in at once. This will ensure that the dumplings have enough space in the pot and will not stick to each other.

3. When the dumplings are cooking in the pot, use a spatula or colander to gently push and stir them so that each dumpling is separated. Then cover the lid and cook for about 1 minute. The water in the pot continues to boil. Add a bowl of water that is usually enough for rice. When it boils again, if the dumplings are vegetarian, they are basically cooked.

4. If you are cooking mixed meat and vegetable dumplings, then in the previous steps 1-3, add another bowl of water and bring to a boil. After boiling, cook for another 3-5 minutes. At this time, the mixed meat and vegetable dumplings are basically cooked.

5. If you are cooking dumplings with all meat filling, after completing the previous steps 1-4, add another bowl of water, cover the lid and bring to a boil, then cook for about 1 minute. At this time, the dumplings with all meat filling are basically cooked.
