How to store hairy crabs

Hairy crabs can be refrigerated. Fix the legs and feet of the hairy crab, then place it in the refrigerator and cover it with a wet towel. Alternatively, place the hairy crab in a bucket and add some small fish and shrimp to increase the oxygen content in the water. Dead hairy crabs will produce a large amount of toxins, so do not eat them.

1. Keep in refrigerator

Hairy crabs need to be refrigerated. First, use a rope to secure the crab's legs and feet to reduce its vital activities. Then place it in the refrigerator's cold food area. Cover the crab with a wet towel and adjust the temperature to about 5 degrees. It can be stored for 3 to 5 days.

2. Preservation in water

Hairy crabs can be raised in water. Put the hairy crabs in a bucket, add water to cover the crabs' heads, then put some small fish and shrimps in the water to increase the oxygen in the water. Then move the bucket to a ventilated and cool place and store it. This will extend the shelf life of the hairy crabs.

3. Notes

Hairy crabs contain a large amount of protein. After death, hairy crabs will breed a large number of bacteria and harmful substances. Therefore, hairy crabs should be thrown away directly after death and should not be eaten to prevent toxic substances from entering the human body and causing symptoms such as diarrhea and abdominal pain.

How to clean hairy crabs

Soak in salt water for about 10 minutes, and scrub the back, abdomen, mouth, sides, and the base of the feet and claws vigorously with a toothbrush. You also need to open the crab's abdominal cover, squeeze out the excrement from the inside to the outside, and clean other dirt inside the abdominal cover. After cleaning, soak it in clean water for about 10 minutes.

Salt water has the effect of disinfection and sterilization. Hairy crabs soaked in salt water are more hygienic and safer to eat.

It is best to cook the processed hairy crabs promptly to avoid affecting their taste by leaving them for a long time.

The crab stomach, crab gills, crab intestines, etc. should all be removed, because these parts contain the hairy crab's excrement and some dirt, and eating them may cause physical discomfort.
