What is the cause of Phalaenopsis root rot? How to solve Phalaenopsis root rot?

With the improvement of living standards, more and more people like to grow flowers and plants at home. Phalaenopsis is loved by many flower growers because of its bright flowers. However, many people have encountered the problem of root rot during maintenance. Let's take a look at how to prevent root rot in Phalaenopsis.

What is the cause of Phalaenopsis root rot?

1. Phalaenopsis is most afraid of waterlogging. Too much water will affect the respiration of the Phalaenopsis root system, and it may even be almost impossible to breathe due to lack of oxygen due to waterlogging, resulting in the proliferation of anaerobic bacteria, damaging the normal function of the Phalaenopsis cell tissue, and causing root rot and death.

2. After watering Phalaenopsis, you can see with your naked eyes how fast the water seeps through the surface of the pot soil. If you find that the water is difficult to seep, it means that the density of the pot soil has decreased with the watering or fertility during the growth and development of Phalaenopsis, so that the soil is becoming dense and hardened, and the roots compact the soil and affect its normal metabolism. Soil must be replaced in time to prevent root rot.

How to solve the problem of Phalaenopsis root rot

1. First, carefully remove the Phalaenopsis with rotten roots from the pot. If you can't take it out, it depends on whether you care more about the flower or the pot.

2. Carefully clean the roots of the Phalaenopsis, cut off all rotten roots, and wash the potting soil completely.

3. Soak the roots in disinfectant solution for ten minutes to fully disinfect them. The disinfectant solution can be potassium permanganate or carbendazim solution, or you can buy hydrogen peroxide at the pharmacy and dilute it with at least five times the amount of clean water.

4. Take the Phalaenopsis out of the disinfectant solution and place it in a cool place for more than two hours to dry all the moisture on the surface. It is best if the roots are a little white and wilted.

5. If the planting medium is bark or sphagnum moss, it is best to boil it in boiling water for a few minutes. If it is humus soil or pine needle soil, it should also be sprayed with disinfectant solution and spread out to dry.

6. Place tiles or stones at the bottom of the pot and plant the Phalaenopsis in the soil. The roots should be fully spread out in the substrate. If they are nestled together, the roots will continue to rot. Water thoroughly at one time.

7. Place the Phalaenopsis in a semi-shaded and ventilated place. Do not water it for more than ten days. If the soil is too wet, the roots will rot again. Let it adapt to the pot slowly. It is best to wait until new roots grow out from the soil surface before starting to water it normally.

How to distinguish the flower sword roots of Phalaenopsis

First, look at the growth position. Those that grow below the leaf axil and are perpendicular to the center line of the leaf are generally flower swords. Those that grow close to the root and on both sides of the leaf axil are generally flower roots.

The second is to look at the color. The color of the Phalaenopsis flower sword is green or dark brown. The color of the flower root is white.

The third is to look at the nodes. Phalaenopsis has many nodes, which are the flower swords. If there are no obvious nodes, it is the flower root.

Fourth, look at the shape. The newly grown flower stem is very thin, and it looks like a triangle when viewed from the side. But the newly grown flower root is very fat, and it looks like a round shape when viewed from the side.

The fifth is to look at the direction. The flower stem of Phalaenopsis grows upward, but the flower root grows downward.

The sixth is to see whether it blooms. The flower stem will bloom when it grows to a certain length, but the flower root will never bloom.
