Why do Schefflera trees always have yellow leaves?

Drooping, yellowing and falling leaves are most likely due to root rot caused by excessive watering. This situation can easily be caused by poor indoor ventilation or the soil in the pot becoming compacted due to the lack of repotting for several years.

What to do if large areas of yellow leaves appear on Schefflera chinensis

1. Remove the plant from the pot and check the roots. Use scissors to trim off the dry and rotten roots. Then mix thiophanate-methyl or carbendazim with water, put the roots of the Schefflera arborvitae in the water and soak it for an hour.

2. The new soil must be breathable and well-drained. You can use a mixture of 50% leaf mold, 30% garden soil, and 20% river sand. When repotting, place a broken tile at the bottom.

3. Remove the leaves, cut off the dry branches, and remove the yellow leaves. Water thoroughly and place in a cool place for maintenance. The root system is damaged at this time, so do not expose it to direct sunlight.

You can put it under the shade of a tree, and make sure it is ventilated and cool. When new buds or leaves grow out of the Schefflera, gradually expose it to sunlight. After half a month, you can maintain it normally.

How to prune Schefflera

1. Reshape

If you think the current Schefflera tree is not in good shape and affects the viewing experience, and you want to reshape it, you can cut off all of it from 15 to 20 cm above the pot soil when the weather warms up in the spring, let new branches sprout from the roots, and reshape it after the new branches grow up. This method is more suitable for Schefflera trees that grow too high and have bare branches or few leaves below.

2. Plastic and pruning

Around the Qingming Festival every year, new buds of the Schefflera arborvitae begin to grow. The Schefflera arborvitae that has been raised for many years can be shaped and pruned, cutting off branches that are too dense, too long, and affect the shape of the plant, promoting the sprouting of new branches on the trunk, and making the shape fuller.

3. Daily pruning

In addition to the two types of large shears mentioned above, when caring for Schefflera arborvitae on a daily basis, it is necessary to promptly cut off the long branches, diseased branches, yellow leaves, etc., so as not to affect the growth of Schefflera arborvitae. Especially in summer, pay more attention to the growth of new buds. At this time, there is sufficient light and the temperature is suitable. It is the peak growth season of Schefflera arborvitae, and new branches are very likely to grow very long.
