Is it necessary to have a uterine curettage if lochia is not discharged completely?

We all know that lochia will appear after childbirth. I believe that many pregnant women have made sufficient preparations to deal with lochia before giving birth, that is, sanitary napkins. Some pregnant women have very little lochia, which will be clear in a few days, so they are very relieved. However, some pregnant women have a lot of lochia, and it is not clear for a long time. Do they need a uterine curettage if the lochia is not clear?

Does postpartum lochia require uterine curettage?

If there is any residue in the uterus, it needs to be treated with a uterine curettage. Go to the hospital for a check-up. If there is a lot of residue, a uterine curettage may be required.

This phenomenon may be caused by the fact that the fetal appendages were not completely discharged during childbirth.

It is recommended to go to the hospital for a hysterectomy to see if there are any remains of the embryo and attached materials in the uterine cavity. If there are any remains, a uterine curettage should be performed. If there are no remains, it is considered that the bleeding may be caused by uterine contractions, and oxytocin can be used for treatment.

Generally, women with longer lochia will stop having it within 50 days, and the bleeding will become less and less in the first ten days after delivery. This may be irregular vaginal bleeding.

As for menstruation, it is related to whether or not you are breastfeeding. Most breastfeeding women rarely have their periods within half a year, while those who are formula-fed will have regular ovulation and menstruation after the uterus repairs.

1. If lochia is not discharged completely after childbirth, it may cause local and systemic infection, and in severe cases, it may cause sepsis.

2. Unclear lochia can easily cause late postpartum hemorrhage and even internal bleeding shock, which can seriously endanger the life of the pregnant woman.

3. The postpartum lochia caused by caesarean section can easily cause wound rupture or poor healing, and even require hysterectomy.

What are the causes of postpartum lochia discharge?

Postpartum lochia is a secretion composed of residual blood, white blood cells, mucus, etc. in the uterus after giving birth. Generally speaking, the lochia is still reddish in color 1 to 3 days after giving birth. After 4 to 10 days, the color will turn into dark red and dark brown. 11 days after giving birth, there will be no blood clots and blood, and the lochia will be light yellow. The lochia will disappear within 2 months according to this situation.

If the above process is not followed, the fetal tissue may not be completely removed after delivery, mostly due to poor uterine contractions, so the lochia cannot be completely discharged. In addition, the bleeding after giving birth is not necessarily all postpartum lochia, it may also be caused by the secretion of growth hormone by breast milk. Because breastfeeding will increase the secretion of growth hormone in milk, making the uterine wall less stable, abnormal bleeding will occur. Generally, 6 weeks after giving birth, the examination consists of smear and ultrasound. If the doctor confirms that it is still within the normal range, this kind of situation can be self-healing.

In addition, excessive food supplements during the confinement period can also cause excessive bleeding, and drinking "Shenghua Tang" is one of the reasons. Most hospitals will have uterotonics, so there is no need to drink Shenghua Tang. If you want to drink it, you need to drink it in moderation, otherwise it will increase the duration of postpartum bleeding. Caesarean section is more necessary because doctors eliminate it completely.
