When will the NT test results come out?

Everyone knows that prenatal check-ups are an indispensable part of pregnancy. However, the process of waiting for the results of the pregnancy test is difficult for every couple. Among them, the NT test, as an important item in the pregnancy test, its results are also of concern to all parents. So, when will the NT test results come out?

The NT in the NT test is the abbreviation of nuchal translucency, which refers to the transparent layer of the fetal neck, that is, the thickness of the fluid accumulation in the subcutaneous tissue at the back of the fetal neck. By examining the thickness of the fetal nuchal translucency through B-ultrasound, the fetal chromosomal diseases can be diagnosed at an early stage and fetal abnormalities caused by various reasons can be discovered at an early stage, such as: fetal spina bifida, fetal spinal protrusion, hydrocephalus, lateral ventricle enlargement, posterior cranial cistern thickening, heart malformations, etc. NT testing is used to diagnose sex chromosome disorders and detect fetal abnormalities caused by various reasons at an early stage of pregnancy.

The NT test usually produces results the next day. It is best to do it between 11 and 14 weeks of pregnancy. The results will be inaccurate after 14 weeks. If the thickness of the protective film exceeds 3mm, it is considered abnormal and needs to be inspected and observed. Due to different individual conditions, some normal fetuses have more blood, which can easily affect the accurate measurement results. If the nuchal translucency is thick, it does not necessarily mean that there is a problem with the fetus.

If the NT value is close to 3mm, pregnant women can consult a doctor to decide whether to conduct further tests to determine the risk of disease. Generally speaking, the thicker the nuchal translucency, the higher the risk of the fetus discovering abnormalities. If the thickness has reached 6mm, then there is a high risk of Down syndrome and other sex chromosomes, genetic syndromes and heart problems. At this time, it is recommended to conduct a subsequent risk screening to identify the condition as soon as possible and take preventive measures.

On-site sampling with the nuchal translucency scanner is done in the early stages of pregnancy. If any abnormality is detected during the test, the pregnant woman can also undergo a villus puncture biopsy immediately and get the results as soon as possible. If a pregnant woman is not sure what to do, she can wait until the 16th week of pregnancy to have an amniocentesis, and she can also consult her doctor immediately for additional information and advice.
