Do I still need to take the glucose tolerance test if my blood sugar is normal?

Do I still need to take the glucose tolerance test if my blood sugar is normal?

Pregnant women must undergo one or more prenatal checkups every month during pregnancy. The glucose tolerance test is a type of pregnancy checkup. Many pregnant women feel that they do not like sweets, and their glucose tolerance levels are not abnormal, so they feel that it is unnecessary to do a glucose tolerance test. So, if a pregnant woman's fasting blood sugar is normal, does she still need to do a glucose tolerance test?

If a pregnant woman's fasting blood sugar test shows normal results, there is no need to take Tang Nai. If a pregnant woman has diabetes, the glucose tolerance index will be higher than the standard value. If it is within the standard value, it means that she does not have diabetes. If a pregnant woman suffers from other symptoms, she needs to use other examination methods to check and find out the cause of the disease, and then carry out effective treatment.

There are many common problems for pregnant women when doing the glucose tolerance test. Before drinking sugar water for the test, they cannot eat overly greasy or overly sweet food. After drinking the sugar water, they cannot eat anything for one hour but only drink water. Before taking a glucose tolerance test, pregnant women should eat less high-sugar foods, try to avoid eating pastries, drink plenty of water, and do moderate exercise to enhance their body's immunity.

Pregnant women should eat less fresh fruits with high sugar content, such as melon, red grapes, etc. a few days before the glucose tolerance test. Eat light and easy-to-digest foods in your diet, and eat less high-calorie foods, because excessive intake will have a negative impact on the development of pregnant women and fetuses.

If they are key targets for diabetes, such as people with a family history of diabetes, people over 45 years old, and people with a history of hyperglycemia in pregnant women. Babies born under low birth weight are those whose birth weight is less than 5 kg. People who have given birth to large babies in the past are pregnant women whose babies weigh more than 4 kg. There are also people who have high blood pressure, high blood lipids, and obesity. These are all key targets for diabetes.

If you are a key target for diabetes, it is recommended that you do a glucose tolerance test. Since the early stages of many types of diabetes are dominated by a rise in blood sugar after meals, if you only measure fasting blood sugar, it will lead to misdiagnosis of diabetes.
