What does the hymen look like?

In fact, the broken hymen is not a layer of membrane in the literal sense. It is actually a very thin and delicate mucous membrane tissue, located about 5 cm away from the vulva, in the shape of a circle of annular wrinkles. A normal hymen has porosity when it is broken, which can be ring-shaped, semicircular, sieve-shaped, etc., which is called hymen hole. The broken mucous membrane tissue of the hymen contains rich capillaries, peripheral nerves, etc. Therefore, when the hymen ruptures, women will always experience a small amount of vaginal bleeding, accompanied by pain.

When a Virgo has sex for the first time, when the man's penis enters the woman's vagina, the hymen is often broken and fissures occur. The fissures of the hymen are usually multiple, expanding radially from the center to the periphery. Because the direction of entry of the male penis is generally downward and inward, the fissures are deeper below the sides of the vulva and reach the base end. This is called complete fissure. Sometimes, because men use too much force during sexual intercourse, the surrounding vaginal walls may also be torn. For women who have given birth, the hymen is further damaged because the fetus is delivered through the vagina, resulting in cuts in various places, sometimes leaving only a few residual bulges, which are called hymen scars. If the baby is delivered by caesarean section, the hymen will remain the same as it was after marriage even if it is broken, because the baby is delivered through the incision in the lower abdomen and not through the vagina.

The hymen appears, grows, and forms when the fetus is 3 to 4 months old. The shape and thickness of the hymen during puberty vary. Generally, the hymen of adolescents is smaller and thicker. With the growth and development of the female body, the hymen will gradually become larger and thinner, and have greater elasticity. The thickness of an adult woman's hymen is about 1 to 2 mm.

During the first sexual intercourse, the hymen is broken and torn, causing bleeding. Because the hymen can be broken in many different ways, the degree of the breaking can vary greatly. The septate hymen with two holes will bleed more and be accompanied by more intense pain. When the mouth-shaped hymen is broken, there will be very little bleeding and basically no pain. The thick and very elastic umbrella-shaped hymen may not break at all after it breaks.

After giving birth, the hymen is broken and further damaged because the baby is delivered through the vagina. Sometimes only a few residual bumps remain, called hymen marks. This type of change is less likely to occur in women who give birth by caesarean section.
