What does left occipital horizontal position mean?

Some professional terms in medicine are often difficult to understand, but they are very familiar to us, especially some issues about the baby during pregnancy. We often ask about the fetal position. The fetal position determines whether the child can be delivered successfully. For example, the fetus is in the left occipital transverse position, what does this mean? Is the fetal transverse position normal? These are all things we need to understand.

The left occipital transverse position of the fetus means that although the head of the fetus is facing down, the back of the head is still located on the side of the pregnant woman's pelvis, and it enters the pelvis in an occipital transverse position, which is called the occipital transverse position. The left occipital transverse position is when the fetal head is tilted to the left side of the pelvis, and the right occipital transverse position is when the fetal head is tilted to the right side of the pelvis. The incidence of the left occipital transverse position is higher than that of the right occipital transverse position. When a pregnant woman is about to give birth, most of the fetuses in the transverse position can turn forward 90° or 135° under the strong contraction of the uterus, that is, become the normal fetal position, and the pregnant woman can give birth naturally. Only 5% to 10% of fetuses have a persistent occipital head position that cannot turn forward, and remains in the posterior or lateral position of the pelvis until the late stages of labor, causing labor difficulties for pregnant women. This is called persistent transverse occipital position, a manifestation of fetal position malposition.

Therefore, whether it is the left occipital transverse position or the right occipital transverse position, it is equivalent to increasing obstacles to the pregnant woman's limited delivery channel, and is also one of the causes of dystocia. Therefore, pregnant women must perform regular fetal examinations before delivery to prevent symptoms such as labor difficulties before delivery. If symptoms of dystocia occur, they must resolutely choose cesarean section, and don't hesitate and delay the health of the child and the mother.

If the fetus is in a transverse position during the examination, you should consult a doctor to see if the fetal position can be adjusted. Don't wait until the delivery to delay the condition. Pregnant mothers can also do appropriate exercise or do some prenatal education activities. It is also very important to maintain a positive attitude and supplement timely nutrition for the baby's growth.
