Under what circumstances does a false positive pregnancy occur?

Many women are accustomed to using pregnancy test strips to detect whether they are pregnant, and hospitals generally use this method to detect. Pregnancy test strips are easy and convenient to use, but will they give you incorrect information? Why does the pregnancy test strip show a positive result, but the hospital physical examination results show that you are not pregnant? This is actually what we often call a positive condition.

Before explaining why a pregnancy test is positive, let's take a quick look at how a pregnancy test detects pregnancy. After a woman becomes pregnant, the fetus will secrete human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG), which can be detected in the urine. There is almost no HCG in the urine of non-pregnant women. The pregnancy test strip determines whether you are pregnant by testing the HCG value in urine.

In general, there are two kinds of test results of pregnancy test paper: put urine into the test hole on the pregnancy test paper, if there is a line of ink in the contrast area of the pregnancy test paper (some pregnancy test paper are bright red, some pregnancy test paper are dark blue), the expression is negative, indicating that you are not pregnant; on the contrary, if there is an obvious line of ink in the test area, the expression is positive, indicating that you are already pregnant. This type of test has the advantages of being rapid, convenient, flexible and highly specific. Pregnancy test strips are only used as a preliminary screening test. Don't trust them too much, because pregnancy test strips may result in positive or false negative results.

How can a positive result appear?

This condition may also be a false pregnancy. Physiologists believe that false pregnancy is a comprehensive "deficit" of physiology and psychology. After getting married, some women, eager to have children, often compare themselves with their sisters who are getting married at the same time. When they see others getting pregnant, they become envious and anxious. When you think about it day and night or want something that is out of reach, the cerebral cortex will produce obvious "anticipation" excitation foci, which will affect the hypothalamic pituitary gland and pituitary gland's neurological dysfunction, and finally cause amenorrhea.

After menopause, under the influence of estrogen in the body, fat in the lower abdomen will also accumulate. As a result of their psychological desire to get pregnant, they think they are pregnant, which leads to "pregnancy" reactions such as anorexia, eclipse and nausea. For some women, under the psychological factor of "simulated pregnancy", the ratio of estrogen and androgen in the body will be unbalanced, and they may even develop strange butterfly spots on their cheeks and feel "baby movement" in their stomachs. This is actually a psychological factor.

Generally speaking, if a woman does a self-test for pregnancy at home, without any external guidance, the test results generally have a success rate of only 51% to 76%. A positive pregnancy test may be caused by emotional anxiety or other factors. If such tests are done in the laboratory in front of a doctor, the doctor can ensure that the pregnancy test paper works normally, and the woman can actually use the pregnancy test paper correctly according to the instructions, the success rate of the test may be close to 99.9%.

Proper operation is important

When we use early pregnancy paper for testing, we must operate accurately. Before going to the bathroom, we must carefully read the test card instructions and operate carefully according to the instructions. Otherwise, it is easy to have the positive situation mentioned above, resulting in inaccurate results.

Although pregnancy test strips are of great help to women, be careful not to blindly believe that they will give you the final answer. To accurately know whether you are pregnant, you should go to a professional hospital for an HCG urine test or blood test to accurately determine whether you are pregnant.
