Checklist for pregnant women over 35 years old

After a woman becomes pregnant, she needs to go to the hospital regularly for prenatal checkups. The examination items at each stage are similar and different. This is to ensure whether the fetus is growing and developing healthily at this stage. Pregnancy for older pregnant women is more risky than that for women of the right age for childbirth, so there may be more examination items. So what are the pregnancy checklists for pregnant women over 35 years old?

Pregnancy checklist for older pregnant women

The necessary examinations for older mothers during pregnancy include ultrasound examination, villus and amniotic fluid examination, and fetal protein test through catheterization. Ultrasound examinations are best performed twice, at 12 weeks and 20 weeks respectively. This examination can detect abnormalities in the baby's development. The villus and amniotic fluid examination is carried out around 11 weeks. This examination can accurately check whether the fetus is normal. The fetal protein test is a risk-free blood test that is designed to measure the level of alpha-fetoprotein, which can be used to detect symptoms such as nerve damage and Down syndrome in a timely manner.

1. Maternal blood screening test: Maternal blood screening test is one of the prenatal examinations and is usually performed at 8-9 weeks of pregnancy. This test is a safety check and is not prone to trauma. Generally, older women over 35 years old should check these items and make relevant preparations for future delivery. Maternal blood screening tests can detect whether the baby is congenitally mentally retarded.

2. B-ultrasound examination: B-ultrasound examination is also an item in prenatal examination. It is an examination conducted during pregnancy. Pregnant women of normal age do not need to undergo too many B-ultrasound examinations, but older women need to undergo 2-3 B-ultrasound examinations to help doctors understand the condition of the fetus in time and prevent pregnant women from giving birth to deformed babies.

3. Chorionic villus cytology test: Chorionic villus cytology test is also a test for pregnant women. It is usually performed around 40-70 days of pregnancy. It can help pregnant women check whether the fetus has genetic diseases and other conditions, and understand whether the fetus has any abnormalities.

4. Amniocentesis: Amniocentesis is mainly a test for high-risk pregnant women. It is performed when the pregnant woman is 16-18 weeks pregnant. This test can accurately determine whether the fetus in the belly has some genetic or congenital diseases.

5. Percutaneous umbilical cord puncture: Percutaneous umbilical cord puncture can confirm whether there are any abnormalities in the fetus's sex chromosomes.

For the health of the baby in the belly, pregnant mothers are advised to have a thorough pregnancy check-up to ensure the health of the baby to be born. If the baby in the belly is unhealthy due to personal reasons or some genetic factors, forcing it to be born is a kind of shirking responsibility for the baby's future life, so prospective parents should attach great importance to prenatal examinations.
