Lymphocyte ratio is high

Lymphocyte ratio is high

For normal people, their reticulocyte counts are within the standard range during examination. However, during routine physical examinations, some people's reticulocyte counts are higher than the standard value. The existence of this situation is obviously abnormal. Therefore, when the reticulocyte count is above the standard value, we need to actively search for the cause.

What is the reason for the high reticulocyte count standard value?

Under normal physiological conditions, the proportion of reticulocytes is 20%-40%. The reticulocyte test belongs to the basic aspect of clinical blood test. The shape and proportion of reticulocytes can be observed by counting and classifying white blood cells.

Reticulocytes are a type of white blood cell count. Produced by lymphoid organs, it is the key somatic cell component of the body's immune response. Lymphoid organs can be divided into two categories: central nervous system lymphoid organs and peripheral lymphoid organs based on their production and functions.

The former includes the thymus, bursa, or a special organ (many people think it is the bone marrow in mammals). They can continue to reproduce reticulocytes without antigen stimulation, and after maturity, they are transported to peripheral lymphoid organs.

The latter includes spleen, lymph nodes, etc. The perfection of reticulocytes requires antigen stimulation to divide and multiply, so as to fully exert their immune function.

(1) Acute infectious diseases caused by some viruses or bacteria, such as rubella, mumps, infectious reticulocytosis, infectious mononucleosis, etc. Reticulocyte counts often increase significantly during whooping cough.

(2) Some chronic infections: For example, in tuberculosis, the number of reticulocytes often increases, but the total white blood cell count is generally still within the standard value range.

(3) If rejection occurs after liver transplantation, especially in the early stages of the rejection reaction, the number of lymphocytes often increases.

(4) Reticulocytic sepsis and leukocytic lymphosarcoma.

(5) In patients with aplastic anemia and agranulocytosis, the percentage of reticulocytes increases relatively due to a significant decrease in neutrophils, which is called a relative increase in reticulocytes.

What is the reason for the high standard value of reticulocyte count? From the above, we can see that the existence of chronic infection, liver transplant rejection, anemia, rubella and infectious reticulocytosis can all cause the patient's reticulocyte count to deviate from the standard range and become elevated. Therefore, patients should pay more attention when such conditions occur.
