Where does costochondritis hurt?

The pain location of costochondritis is mainly chest pain. Nonspecific costochondritis usually occurs in the second to fourth costal cartilages beside the scapula, among which the second costal cartilage is more common, and sometimes it also occurs in the costal arch. There is also significant tenderness at the affected area, and severe pain may radiate to the back, shoulders, arms, and armpits. The pain may be aggravated by physical activity, deep breathing, coughing or fatigue. Women may continue to experience referred breast pain. The main symptoms of infectious costochondritis are chest pain and swelling, heat and pain in some parts of the skin.

Costochondritis patients can relieve pain by:

1. Medication treatment: Patients with costochondritis can take anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs such as prednisone to relieve pain. However, we should also pay attention to the use of therapeutic drugs. There are certain defects, that is, drug treatment can only temporarily relieve pain and cannot treat costochondritis from the source. Long-term use of therapeutic drugs may cause some side effects and reduce the patient's immune ability, but it also increases the body's resistance to therapeutic drugs and increases the difficulty of treating the disease.

2. Surgical treatment: If the patient's condition worsens and severe pain occurs, the pathological changes of the costal cartilage can be removed through surgical treatment. Surgical treatment also has some shortcomings. On the one hand, surgery is very traumatic and has high risk factors, which causes great harm to the patient's body. On the other hand, patients are prone to some infectious complications after surgery, such as soft tissue necrosis, pneumonia, etc.

3. Scraping therapy: Traditional Chinese medicine scraping therapy can also relieve pain. If the costochondritis patient also suffers from heart disease and hemophilia, this method is not suitable. In addition, scratching will cause certain damage to the skin, and the treatment time required will be longer.
