What causes inverted nipples?

When the nipple indentation of adult women is embedded in the soft skin of the nipple and does not protrude from the plane of the nipple, resulting in a part with a size mouth shape, it is called nipple filling. There are certain differences in the degree of nipple filling. Some only manifest as timidity of the nipple, while severe cases may manifest as concave or even rotated nipples. The stuffing inside the nipple not only affects the beauty of the breast, but also hinders breastfeeding. It is also difficult to clean. The concave position is easy to hide dirt, which often causes local infection. The mammary gland hose is interconnected with the concave position, and the inflammation can spread to the inside and outside of the mammary gland and cause mastitis, so it should be corrected.

Nipple fillings not only affect the overall beauty of the breasts but also make it impossible to carry out normal breastfeeding, affecting the normal development of the baby. Statistics show that women who have not breastfed have a higher incidence of breast cancer than those who breastfeed normally. The inside of the nipple with fillings accumulates dirt that is difficult to clean, causing local erosion and infection or mastitis. Single or married people without children should be fully prepared for breastfeeding after delivery. Therefore, women with nipple filling should seek treatment as soon as possible.

The causes of nipple indentations can be divided into congenital and acquired.

The actual cause of congenital nipple indentations

1. Hypoplasia of nipples and nipples' smooth muscles: nipples have openings of lactiferous ducts, and smooth muscle fibers around the lactiferous ducts.

The bundle of muscle tissue that tightly surrounds the milk ducts and inserts into the dermis of the nipple stretches inward. The color of this muscle bundle is significantly different from that of the lactiferous ducts.

2. Poor development of the lactiferous ducts themselves: Poorly developed lactiferous ducts cannot be flexible and mainly manifest as cords.

3. The lack of support from supporting tissue under the nipple is also the cause of nipple filling.

The actual causes of non-hereditary nipple indentations are

1. Clothing is too tight. Especially for women during the period of breast development, wearing too tight bras can easily cause nipple indentations.

2. Improper use of bra. Bras that are too small, too tight, or used too early can all cause nipple indentations.

3. Breast diseases, malignant tumors, mastitis, papillitis, etc.
