Can a mother breastfeed when she has a fever?

Many breastfeeding mothers often have such distress, that is, eating a little at random may affect the baby's gastrointestinal tract. The gastrointestinal tract of newborn babies is relatively fragile and is easily affected by breast milk. If the mother catches a cold and has a fever during breastfeeding, can the child still be breastfed?

Can the mother breastfeed the child if she has a fever?

It depends on the level of fever. A mild fever does not affect breastfeeding. The baby can get the mother's antigens from the mother's milk, so it is even more important to stick to the milk. When taking care of a newborn, you should pay attention to hygiene and wear a protective mask to prevent saliva from touching the baby.

However, when the mother has a severe cold, breastfeeding should be avoided as much as possible, as the number of influenza viruses in the breast milk is high and can easily infect the baby.

In addition, if the mother has a fever or a cold, there is no need to resist and the condition can be cured immediately without taking any medicine. After that, if you prevent it, you will hardly catch a cold or fever again.

How to reduce fever during breastfeeding

If the mother has a fever during breastfeeding (measured temperature is between 38 and 40 degrees Celsius), she should rest in bed at home and ensure sufficient sleep time to facilitate energy recovery; eat more nutritious fluids such as milk, rice porridge, noodles, etc., eat small meals frequently, and avoid eating too much when having a fever; at the same time, drink plenty of warm water, no more than 500 ml a day.

Don't reduce fever as soon as you have a fever, because a certain degree of fever (body temperature below 38.5℃) has a protective effect on the body. During the fever period, breastfeeding can be stopped for 1-2 days. During the feeding period, breast milk should be expressed frequently to ensure continued breastfeeding in the future. Pregnant women should drink plenty of water, fresh fruit juice and eat a light and easily digestible diet.

The previous article introduced in detail whether the mother can breastfeed the baby when she has a fever. Breast milk is the first milk for newborn babies. It is recommended that mothers breastfeed their babies more often under healthy conditions. If the baby has a fever, they should feed the baby with milk in moderation under the advice of a doctor, so as not to affect the baby's physical growth and development.
