The difference between minimally invasive breast surgery and open surgery

Generally speaking, the breast of women is a part that is prone to lesions, especially for women who have experienced lactation, the probability of developing breast diseases is relatively high. For example, the more common breast diseases include breast hyperplasia, mastitis, and breast fibroids. Although they are not serious or small, it is undeniable that they will cause certain damage to the patient's body. When it comes to treating breast diseases, what is the difference between minimally invasive surgery and open surgery?

Minimally invasive breast surgery and open surgery each have their own advantages and disadvantages, and each has its own suitable patients. If the lump is large and can be felt by hand, it is better to have surgery. The advantages of surgery are that it can be removed cleanly without residue and good hemostasis; the disadvantage is that the surgical scar on the skin is large. Minimally invasive surgery, also known as Mammotome excision, is a procedure that removes small, impalpable breast nodules under ultrasound guidance. The disadvantage is that the internal trauma is relatively large, and hematoma is easily formed. Because it is impossible to stop bleeding, pressure is needed to stop the bleeding. The advantage is that the skin incision scar is very small, about 0.3-0.5cm in size. Therefore, each has its pros and cons, and each has its own indications.

In fact, for breast tumors, both minimally invasive surgery and open surgery have their own advantages and disadvantages, and the specific choice depends on the patient's specific disease condition.

The biggest advantage of minimally invasive breast surgery is that it will not leave any scars. Open surgery is more likely to leave scars in patients with scar-prone constitutions, but it can better protect the mammary duct tissue. For breast lumps near the nipple and patients who wish to breastfeed, open surgery is generally recommended. There are strict indications for minimally invasive breast surgery, which is mainly used for patients who are clinically considered to have benign conditions.

For patients with imaging grade 2 or 3 and lesions smaller than three centimeters, minimally invasive surgery can also be considered for multiple unilateral breast masses or bilateral breast masses. However, after the operation, you must apply pressure to stop bleeding because the trauma is relatively large.

Whether you choose minimally invasive surgery or open surgery, the tumor can basically be completely removed. The choice is made based on the advantages and disadvantages of the two and the patient's own wishes. There is no saying which one is better or worse.
