What to do if you have varicose veins during pregnancy

What to do if you have varicose veins during pregnancy

Pregnancy is a very important period for women, and it is also a period that requires great caution. During this period, for the health of the fetus, pregnant women are not allowed to do many things, especially many medicines cannot be used. Many women also experience varicose veins during pregnancy. So, how to deal with varicose veins of the vulva during pregnancy?

1. How to treat varicose veins of the vulva in pregnant women

In the late stages of pregnancy, pregnant mothers can often see earthworm-like strips on their calves, insteps and vulva. These are bluish in color, prominent in shape, and winding along the legs. These are varicose veins. This is venous dilatation caused by poor blood return to the lower limbs, which leads to venous blood congestion. It makes pregnant mothers feel bloated, sore, numb and weak. Sometimes the blood accumulates into balls with thin walls and is very easy to rupture. Once ruptured, blood will flow out profusely, which is very dangerous for both the pregnant mother and the baby. Therefore, if varicose veins develop, you should take more precautions in your life.

2. Precautions for varicose veins of the vulva in pregnant women

1. When varicose veins first occur, do not stand for a long time, nor sit for a long time. Instead, change your body position frequently to rest. If you sit for a long time, pay attention to moving your feet frequently. Do not squat on the toilet for too long each time.

2. If conditions permit, lift your legs to facilitate venous blood return. When you have varicose veins of the vulva, you should stay in bed and rest in a supine position.

3. After getting up every day, when varicose veins and lower limb edema are relatively mild, wear high-elastic nylon stockings or wrap elastic bandages around your calves; you can use an elastic menstrual belt on the vulva and remove it at night; do not wear underwear too tightly around the abdomen. In this way, the symptoms of varicose veins can be alleviated and bleeding and infection caused by trauma such as bumps can be avoided.

4. Use pillows to elevate your legs when sleeping to promote venous blood return; avoid taking a bath with too cold or too hot water, water at the same temperature as body temperature is most suitable; prevent constipation, and if you have a chronic cough or asthma, you should cure it thoroughly to reduce venous pressure.

3. Can pregnant women with varicose veins of the vulva give birth naturally?

According to research statistics, about 1/3 of pregnant women will develop varicose veins or microvascular dilatation in the lower limbs with varying degrees of severity. Moreover, during pregnancy, varicose veins may appear not only in the legs, but also in other parts of the body, such as the neck and perineum.

Pregnant women with varicose veins of the vulva can give birth naturally. In this case, as long as the pelvic opening is large enough during delivery, natural birth can be considered. However, there are certain risks, the main one being the fear of vaginal blood vessel rupture and bleeding, but the chance is very small. You can give birth naturally if you are well prepared. In severe cases, natural delivery is impossible, the descent of the fetus will be affected, and severe perineal tearing and bleeding will occur, endangering the lives of the pregnant woman and the fetus.
