Female vagina structure

The vagina is one of the body parts that every woman has, but few people understand its specific structure. Some people don't even know where the vagina is, or confuse the urethra with the vagina. The vaginal opening is located between the urethral opening and the anus. The opening is relatively narrow. The skin in the vagina is soft and delicate, similar to the lips. The vagina is connected to the cervix. Let's take a closer look at the structure of the female vagina.

The structure of the vagina is mainly that the lower part is narrower, and the lower end opens to the vaginal vestibule with the vaginal opening. During the virgin stage, the vaginal opening is surrounded by a hymen, which may be ring-shaped, crescent-shaped, umbrella-shaped or sieve-shaped. After the hymen ruptures, a hymen mark remains around the vaginal opening.

The upper end of the vagina is wide, surrounding the cervix and vagina, forming a ring-shaped depression between the two, called the vaginal vault, which can be divided into the front, back and two side parts. It is deepest at the posterior part of the vaginal vault and is closely adjacent to the rectouterine pouch, separated only by the vaginal wall and a layer of peritoneum. It has great practical significance clinically, for example, the accumulated fluid in the depression can be drained through the posterior fornix.

The vagina is an elastic, tubular organ located between the bladder, urethra, and rectum. It has multiple physiological functions in the human reproductive process. It is the channel connecting the uterus and the vulva. It is the only way to discharge menstrual blood and deliver the baby. It is also an important sexual organ.

The vaginal opening is located in the diamond-shaped space between the labia minora on both sides - the posterior part of the vaginal vestibule. Its shape and size vary greatly from person to person. If the vaginal opening is narrow, it often causes difficulty in sexual intercourse. There is also a circular mucosal fold at the vaginal opening of a virgin called the hymen. This thin film-like tissue contains connective tissue, blood vessels and nerve endings, which can partially close the vagina. The inner edge of the hymen is sharp and complete, and the hymen of unmarried women is light red. The hymen is usually not completely sealed, and there is a small hole in the middle to allow menstrual blood to flow out after puberty. The shape, size of the holes and thickness of the membrane may vary from person to person. The hymen hole of an unmarried woman is generally crescent-shaped or oval-shaped, but it can also be sieve-shaped, radial-shaped, fish-mouth-shaped or other shapes. Their sizes vary, some are so small that one finger cannot pass through, while others are so large that two fingers can fit through them. The hymen is generally about 2 mm thick and usually breaks during the first sexual intercourse, but there are many exceptions. For example, some hymens are too narrow and thin and may break during exercise, vibration, or placement of menstrual plugs. From the perspective of sex life, people are more concerned about the vagina, because it is directly related to sex life after all. People jokingly call it a "hole", but it is actually not a cave, but a closed space. Its function is a bit like a balloon. Normally the vaginal walls are close to each other, but they can be fully expanded when needed. The vagina is actually an elastic muscle organ that can contract and relax. When it contracts, even a small finger cannot be inserted. When it relaxes, the penis can be inserted or pulled out at will, and it can even accommodate a fetus and allow the fetus to pass through it. The tightness of women's vaginas varies greatly. The vaginas of unmarried women are relatively tight and the muscles are elastic. After giving birth, the vaginal walls become loose and the vagina becomes looser.
