Does having an abortion before affect pregnancy?

For women who have had abortions before, their endometrium will indeed be greatly affected and become thinner than that of ordinary women, which will affect pregnancy. However, as long as women do not have abortions frequently, it will usually not cause too much harm and they can still succeed in getting pregnant through preparation, unless the patient has already injured their uterus during the abortion and will no longer be able to have children.

1. Uterine perforation:

The longer the gestational age, the higher the risk; the more miscarriages there are, the greater the chance of perforation. Other conditions such as abnormal uterine position or shape or previous uterine surgery (such as cesarean section or myomectomy) increase the chance of perforation.

2. Cervical or endometrial adhesion:

During an abortion, if the doctor's technique is too rough, it is likely to cause injury or inflammation of the cervix or endometrium, which may lead to postoperative adhesion of the cervix or endometrium and cause menstrual abnormalities, such as amenorrhea or too little menstrual flow. In severe cases, infertility may occur in the future.

3. Cervical injury:

During the abortion process, if you are not careful and the cervix dilates too quickly, it may cause damage to the cervix and make future pregnancies more likely to result in miscarriage, especially for women who are pregnant for the first time or have not yet given birth.

4. Anesthesia:

If the anesthesiologist does not master it well, aspiration pneumonia or respiratory arrest may occur during anesthesia.

5. Incomplete abortion:

If the operation is not performed completely, a small amount of fetal tissue will remain in the uterus, which may affect uterine contractions and cause continuous bleeding or cause adhesions, infections, etc. It is best to perform another careful surgery to remove the remaining tissue. Abnormal position or shape of the uterus is generally more likely to cause this sequelae.

6. Bacterial infection:

If the instruments are not completely sterilized, or the surgeon himself does not pay attention to the aseptic process, it may cause intrauterine infection and even continue to spread upward to invade the fallopian tubes and pelvic cavity. In severe cases, it may result in ectopic pregnancy or infertility in the future.

Recommendation: If it is not absolutely necessary, try not to have an abortion. Please take good contraceptive measures and do not harm your body due to inadequate contraception.
