Does milk leakage mean too much milk?

Milk leakage does not mean that you have too much milk. The specific reason can only be known after a detailed breast examination. If the milk is swollen, you should have a milk-release system. If this continues for a long time, it will still lead to many breast diseases. The most typical one is that it will cause mastitis in mothers during lactation. Once this disease occurs, it will affect normal breastfeeding and make treatment difficult.

The composition of breast milk secreted by mothers during lactation is not constant. According to the characteristics of breast milk composition, it can be divided into three stages: the milk secreted within 5 days after delivery is called colostrum; the milk secreted within 5 to 10 days is called transitional milk; the milk secreted after 10 days is called continuous milk. Milk at different stages is suitable for the needs of babies of different ages.

Colostrum is thick and yellow, with little fat. The milk is high in protein, and contains a lot of anti-ulcer components and white blood cells. These immune components can protect newborns from ulcers. Colostrum contains growth factors, which promote the opening of the villi in the small intestine, prevent incomplete protein metabolites from entering the blood, and prevent allergic reactions. Colostrum has a slight laxative effect and can help meconium be discharged earlier. Because meconium contains atmospheric bilirubin, 50% of which can be reabsorbed by the intestines, colostrum can reduce the chance of hyperbilirubinemia. Colostrum is also high in phospholipids, sodium, vitamin A and vitamin E.

Transitional milk and straight milk have high fat content, while the content of protein and inorganic salts is gradually decreasing.

During each breastfeeding, the milk that the baby sucks at the beginning is called foremilk, and the milk that the baby sucks later is called hindmilk. Foremilk is blue in color and contains high levels of protein, lactose and water, so breastfed babies do not need to be given additional water. The hind milk is white in color and high in fat, which can provide energy for the baby. This requires the baby to empty one breast first, and then suck the other side, so that the baby can get the full amount of milk.

The protein in breast milk is mainly whey protein. The ratio of whey protein to casein is about 60:40. Lactoferrin is also a unique protein in breast milk. It can compete with iron-requiring bacteria for iron, thereby joining certain bacteria in the intestine that rely on iron storage, preventing diarrhea. Ethylsulfonic acid is abundant in breast milk. It is extremely effective for the function of the brain and nervous system, intellectual development, vision and bile metabolism. Therefore, breast milk is an extremely suitable food for babies. To make your baby smart and strong, breastfeeding is the best choice.
