My butt hurts, is it because I'm pregnant?

The buttocks is the most important soft tissue in the human body. Because there is a thick layer of fat on the buttocks that can act as a buffer, and the neural network in the buttocks is also very developed. Therefore, some people's buttocks will be very sensitive. Abnormalities in other parts of the body may cause changes in the buttocks. For example, does buttock pain mean you are pregnant? Let’s take a look at the explanation below?

When pregnancy enters the middle and late stages, it is equivalent to placing a large ball of about 20 to 30 kilograms in the abdomen, pulling the spine forward and downward for up to 5 to 6 months. Therefore, it is normal to experience various discomforts, so the buttocks will hurt. Besides this, there are many other factors that can cause butt pain. First of all, it's hormones. After pregnancy, the levels of estrogen, progesterone and relaxin increase significantly, which can lead to relaxation of muscles, ligaments, joints throughout the body, and pelvis. This is in preparation for childbirth, but these can also cause or aggravate buttock pain to varying degrees.

Another reason for buttock pain is compression of the sciatic nerve. In the late pregnancy, the enlarged uterus will compress the sciatic nerve, causing pain and numbness in the buttocks and thighs.

Buttock pain may also be round ligament pain or temporary osteoporosis, which is mainly caused by calcium deficiency and will be relieved after calcium supplementation.

In addition, adjusting sleeping posture and strengthening pelvic exercises can also relieve pain.

As the baby continues to grow and develop in the mother's body, the expectant mother's uterus is also gradually increasing in size. After pregnancy, the pelvic joints will undergo some changes. In order to allow the baby to pass through the pelvis as smoothly as possible, the mother's body will produce a hormone called relaxin, which can soften the ligaments in the pelvis. If the ligaments are loose, the joints will move more easily than before pregnancy, which will cause pain. The enlarged uterus will also constantly stimulate the lower edge of the ribs, which may cause dull rib pain in expectant mothers. The pain is often on one side and may be concentrated in the buttock area.
