What does 3rd degree vaginitis mean?

Since getting married, women have found that their vaginas have started to have some problems. Sometimes they feel itchy, and sometimes the vaginal secretions emit an unpleasant odor. This requires going to the hospital for a proper check-up. Clinically, there are grades for women's vaginal cleanliness, and different grades mean different diseases. So the question is, what does 3rd degree vaginitis mean?

Vaginal cleanliness grading

The degree of vaginal cleanliness is divided into degree I, degree II, degree III, and degree IV, and the grading is done under a microscope.

Grade I: The bacteria in the vagina are mainly lactobacilli, a large number of vaginal epithelial cells can be seen, no cocci or other bacteria can be seen, and under a high-power microscope, there are no more than 5 pus cells in one field of view;

Grade II: Only some of the bacteria in the vagina are lactobacilli, and only some vaginal epithelial cells can be seen. Under a high-power microscope, there are more than 5 but no more than 15 pus cells in one field of view. In grade II leucorrhea, lactobacilli and vaginal epithelial cells are much less than those in grade I, and some pus cells and miscellaneous bacteria can also be seen.

Grade III: Only a small amount of lactobacilli and vaginal epithelial cells can be seen. On the contrary, the number of miscellaneous bacteria increases. There are 15 to 30 pus cells in one high-power field of view.

Grade IV: Completely opposite to Grade I, lactobacilli and vaginal epithelial cells are almost invisible, and all that is visible are miscellaneous bacteria, with more than 30 pus cells.

Therefore, the higher the degree of vaginal cleanliness, the worse it is. Clinically, cleanliness levels I to II are normal; levels III to IV are abnormal. In most cases, they are caused by infection and should be combined with routine leucorrhea examinations to check for Trichomonas, fungi, or clue cells. A simple increase in cleanliness level may also be nonspecific vaginitis.
