What does occult blood in pregnancy mean?

Occult blood generally refers to a result presented after a urine test. When hemoglobin is present in a person's urine, the test result is generally occult blood. During pregnancy, pregnant women generally need to undergo routine urine tests, because this test can effectively infer whether there is inflammation in the urethra orifice of the pregnant woman and whether there are problems with the urinary system. What does it mean if the occult blood test result is 1+ during pregnancy?

1. If there are more than 2 red blood cells per high-power field of view in the urine after centrifugation under a microscope, it is called hematuria. The appearance of “+” indicates that the intrinsic cells of the kidney have begun to be damaged, and the filtration function of the kidney has begun to be impaired by the immune mediator complex. If it is not effectively treated, the number of damaged and proliferating glomeruli will increase, and the degree of kidney damage will gradually increase.

Suggestions: It may be an inflammation of the urinary system or an inflammation of the kidneys. You should go to the hospital to check the red blood cell morphology. If the abnormal red blood cells are greater than 60%, it indicates glomerulonephritis, otherwise it is an inflammation of the urinary system. Simple occult blood is not a big problem, but it requires a clear diagnosis.

2. The current test results indicate that there is a high possibility of nephritis. Red blood cells are the largest molecules in the blood and cannot pass through the glomerular filtration barrier. When the intrinsic cells of the glomerulus are damaged, the gaps in the filtration membrane become larger, causing the leakage of red blood cells. It is recommended to check the red blood cell localization analysis. If the deformity rate exceeds 70% or there are more than 3 types of deformities, consider renal hematuria. Urinary protein is caused by damage to the kidney's filtration barrier, mainly due to damage to the charge barrier. Continuous protein leakage will aggravate damage to the glomeruli and renal tubules. It is recommended to check the 24-hour protein quantification to see the protein loss. If it exceeds 150 mg/L, nephritis should be considered. Patients with nephritis are generally not recommended to get pregnant, as this will increase the burden on the kidneys and easily cause the disease to progress rapidly.
