What are the techniques used by lactation therapists?

Usually, babies need breast milk soon after they are born. The sooner a woman starts breastfeeding, the better. The more the baby eats and poops after birth, the faster the jaundice can be eliminated. However, sometimes due to some reasons of the new mother herself, there is less milk or milk blockage. At this time, it is necessary to use the correct method to open milk or induce milk. What are the techniques of lactation consultants?

Lactation Technique

1. Gently stimulate the nipples with your fingers

Use your fingers to gently massage the nipples and stimulate them appropriately.

2. Gently massage the base of the nipple

Use your fingers to slowly and gently massage the base of the nipple until you feel comfortable. Do not use too much force to avoid causing pain.

3. Feel around the breast for lumps

Massage is to gently touch the area around the breasts and check for lumps around the breasts

4. Draw a straight line horizontally and vertically on the nipple

5. Squeeze and stimulate both ends of the nipple

Use the force of finger massage to squeeze and massage the nipples at both ends

6. Press down firmly toward the ribs

When massaging, press down slowly along the ribs with your fingers.

7. Slowly pinch

Use your thumb and index finger to pinch the nipple slowly.

8. Start pressing, pinching and twisting after milk comes out

After the milk comes out, use your thumb and index finger to slowly press, pinch and twist the nipple.

Unclog the mammary glands: Use the pulp of your thumb, index finger and middle finger to massage back and forth along the mammary ducts vertically, which can effectively promote the patency of the mammary ducts.

Soft nipples and areola: If the mother’s nipples and areola appear hard, you can use the thumb, index finger, and middle finger to perform a 360-degree rotating massage around the areola, and the hands can constantly change directions. Because the nipple in the areola is harder, a longer massage time is required to stimulate lactation: To make the mother's milk more sufficient, you can use the thumb, index finger, and middle finger to squeeze from the areola toward the nipple. When squeezing, the mother can imagine the way a baby sucks milk, and imagine the three fingers of the massage as the baby's small mouth sucking milk to increase the body's lactation response.

Milk accumulation: Some new mothers have a lot of milk, but it accumulates in the breasts. You can use one hand to support the breast in a C shape and vibrate the breast slightly, gradually increasing the amplitude of vibration, and use three fingers of the other hand to massage from the areola toward the nipple.
