When to use a pelvic belt

When to use a pelvic belt

A pelvic belly belt is a product used by mothers after childbirth to help restore the pelvis. It is necessary to use a pelvic belly belt regardless of the method of delivery, and it is best used within 42 days after delivery. During this period, the plasticity of the pelvis is very good, and using a pelvic belly belt is beneficial to the recovery of the pelvis. The time to use a pelvic belly belt is different for natural delivery and caesarean section, so it is best to treat them differently.

Use a pelvic belt after childbirth

Whether mothers give birth naturally or by cesarean section, their pelvis will widen due to increased hormones in preparation for natural birth. Research has found that within 42 days after delivery, female hormones have not yet decreased and the pelvis still has good plasticity. Therefore, applying moderate external force to the pelvis in time within 42 days after delivery can effectively help the pelvis return to its pre-delivery state. In other words, unlike the recovery of a woman's abdomen, the pelvis can only recover effectively during the confinement period.

Therefore, whether the mother has a natural birth or a caesarean section, she can start using the pelvic correction belt 2 or 3 days after delivery as long as she feels good. The pelvic belt is different from the general abdominal belt. It is used at a lower position. Its function is to apply moderate inward pressure to the pelvis to promote its recovery as soon as possible.

When to use pelvic belt for natural childbirth

Some mothers think that since there is no wound on the abdomen after a natural childbirth, they can use a belly belt immediately. This is not the case. After giving birth, there is still a lot of blood stasis, gas and other body fluids in the mother's abdomen, which need to be naturally discharged from the body through circulation. If a restraint belt is used too early, it will only restrict blood circulation in the body, which is not conducive to the discharge of lochia, and is even more detrimental to smooth breathing, and is not good for organ recovery. In addition, using a belly belt too early will put the force on the upper part of the pelvis, which may force the still soft pelvis to expand outward, which is not conducive to the recovery of the pelvis.

Therefore, it is recommended that mothers who give birth naturally should start using a pelvic correction belt after their bodies have recovered well after delivery, and then use a belly belt specially designed for natural delivery to help shape their body one month after delivery.

When to use a pelvic belt for caesarean section

After a cesarean section, the abdominal viscera are affected by the invasive surgery, and a special cesarean section belly belt needs to be used immediately after the operation to fix the wound, promote wound healing, and prevent the internal organs from sagging. At this time, the nursing function of the belly belt is greater than its body shaping function, so when mothers buy a belly belt for cesarean section, they should avoid tightening the size blindly. Instead, they should choose a special belly belt for cesarean section that has good breathability, is comfortable to wear, and can be freely adjusted in tightness according to the location and recovery degree of the cesarean section wound. At the same time, you can also use a pelvic correction belt to help the pelvis return to its pre-natal size as soon as possible.
