How long can I sit after a pelvic fracture?

The pelvis is a relatively important part of our body, especially for women. Protecting the pelvis means protecting our abdominal organs. These include the ovaries and uterus, which are extremely important for women. Of course, the pelvis may sometimes be fractured due to some unexpected circumstances. Although it can be treated through surgery, it will still take a long time to recuperate. So, how long can you sit after a pelvic fracture?

Pelvic fracture is a serious trauma, which is mostly caused by direct and violent pelvic compression. More than half of patients with pelvic fractures will have complications or multiple injuries. Severe cases may lead to traumatic hemorrhagic shock and combined injuries to pelvic organs. If not treated properly, it will be life-threatening.

In the treatment of pelvic fractures, if complications occur, they must be dealt with in a timely manner and the fractures must be reduced and fixed. If retroperitoneal hematoma occurs, there is no need for surgical exploration to stop bleeding. The ugly point can be found from DSA arteriography to perform embolization to stop bleeding, or the internal pressure of the hematoma can be increased to stop bleeding by self-compression. Different situations require different methods of treatment. If there is any inappropriateness, the consequences will be unimaginable.

So, after the pelvic fracture is treated, we need to follow the doctor's instructions and lie still in bed. We also need to perform some functional exercises after the operation, and the exercises generally depend on the fracture situation. We can divide fractures into two types: fractures that do not affect the integrity of the pelvic ring and fractures that affect the integrity of the pelvic ring. If it is a simple fracture that does not affect the integrity of the pelvic ring, has no complications and does not require reduction, you should lie on your back or side (the healthy side is below) when in bed. In the early stage, you can stretch the left upper limb, contract the lower limb muscles and move the feet and ankles in bed. After a week, you can do semi-recumbent and sitting exercises, and do flexion and extension exercises of the hip and knee joints. After 2-3 weeks, you can get out of bed and walk slowly to increase your activity. After 3-4 weeks, you can walk normally without restrictions. If the fracture affects the integrity of the pelvic ring, patients without complications should rest on a hard bed and perform upper limb activities. From the second week, they can perform lower limb muscle contraction exercises in a semi-sitting position. After the third week, they can start to move their hip and knee joints from passive to active. After 6-8 weeks, when the fracture is clinically healed, they can get out of bed and use crutches to move around. From the 12th week, they can gradually stop walking with crutches and bear weight until they can walk normally.

Judging from the above situations, the healing time of pelvic fractures in different situations is different, so the time when you can sit or stand normally is also sooner or later. Everything depends on the severity of your fracture. Most patients only need to stay in bed for 6-8 weeks before they can sit up properly. Pelvic fracture is now a common fracture with a high incidence rate. Therefore, for the sake of our beautiful life, everyone must pay attention to safety when traveling to prevent accidental injuries.
