Can progesterone rule out ectopic pregnancy?

Can progesterone rule out ectopic pregnancy?

Progesterone is also very important for women. When a woman is pregnant, if she lacks progesterone, it is particularly easy to cause fetal stillbirth and ectopic pregnancy. Therefore, women should supplement progesterone when necessary. Bed rest is good for both their body and the fetus. In addition, ectopic pregnancy is very similar to normal pregnancy at the beginning. So can progesterone be used to rule out ectopic pregnancy?

Just looking at the progesterone value cannot rule out ectopic pregnancy. It can only be said that if the progesterone value is high, the chance of ectopic pregnancy will be particularly low. When the progesterone value is higher than 20NG/ML, ectopic pregnancy can be ruled out with a high probability, especially in the early stages of pregnancy when B-ultrasound cannot provide accurate detection. We can first use progesterone testing to rule out ectopic pregnancy.

If the progesterone value is lower than 20NG/ML, the pregnant mother should pay attention to it and go to the hospital for an ultrasound examination. If a gestational sac is seen in the uterus and there is no obvious cystic object outside the uterus, ectopic pregnancy can be ruled out. On the contrary, if the gestational sac cannot be seen in the uterus, there is a possibility of ectopic pregnancy. If it is accompanied by abdominal pain and vaginal bleeding, and the hCG level growth is also abnormal, especially when the blood hCG>2000IU/L, then it is definitely an ectopic pregnancy. In addition, when the progesterone value is <5ng/ml, intrauterine pregnancy miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy is directly considered.

The most common symptoms of early ectopic pregnancy

1. Abdominal pain

If an ectopic pregnancy occurs, before miscarriage or fallopian tube rupture, it is generally manifested as a dull pain or soreness in the lower abdomen on one side, that is, a heavy pain in the lower abdomen, a feeling of defecation, sometimes severe pain, accompanied by cold sweats. Once miscarriage or fallopian tube rupture occurs, you will suddenly feel severe pain in the lower abdomen, and may be accompanied by nausea and vomiting. There is obvious pain when pressing the abdomen.

2. Menopause

Before tubal pregnancy miscarriage or rupture, the symptoms and signs are not obvious. In addition to short-term amenorrhea and pregnancy symptoms, there is sometimes bloating and pain in the lower abdomen on one side. During examination, the fallopian tube is normal or enlarged.

3. Vaginal bleeding

It usually manifests as irregular vaginal bleeding after menopause, often with a small amount of bleeding. Generally, menstrual blood is dark brown in color and in small amounts, so it should not be mistaken for menstruation. However, there are a few people who have heavy menstrual flow, which can easily be confused with menstruation.

4. Syncope and shock

After an ectopic pregnancy causes the fallopian tube to rupture, acute bleeding and severe abdominal pain occur in the uterine cavity. In mild cases, fainting may occur, and in severe cases, shock may occur, with symptoms such as cold sweats, pale complexion, palpitations, and other discomforts.

5.Normal pregnancy symptoms

Ectopic pregnancy is also considered pregnancy and will cause the same physical reactions as pregnancy. For example, menstruation stops, basal body temperature rises, early pregnancy reactions appear, breasts begin to change, and there may also be nausea, vomiting, frequent urination and other symptoms. A positive urine pregnancy test can be clearly observed. You should know that the symptoms of ectopic pregnancy are often atypical, so pregnant mothers should pay more attention.
