What to do if you have postpartum depression

Many pregnant women will experience many adverse reactions in their bodies after giving birth, such as insomnia, nausea and vomiting, lack of energy and so on. Some pregnant women will develop psychological illnesses after giving birth, such as low mood, lack of interest in external things, etc. These are manifestations of postpartum depression. Faced with this situation, people need to pay attention and take timely measures to deal with it. What to do if you have postpartum depression?

Symptoms of postpartum depression:

1. Depression

The most obvious symptom of postpartum depression is low mood, which is manifested by sad expression, listlessness, drowsiness, easy tears and crying, worry, fear, timidity, irritability, etc. Patients often feel depressed and melancholy, easily irritated and angry, and often lose their temper over trivial matters.

2. Unable to cope with life

Willpower activity is reduced, it is difficult to concentrate on work, and there is a lack of courage and confidence in socializing. The patient is passive and overly dependent in every way. In severe cases, the patient loses the ability to take care of himself or herself and the baby, and becomes pessimistic and hopeless.

3. Thinking disorder

The child may develop thinking disorders, delusions of persecution, suicidal thoughts or attempts, and even infant harm or suicidal behavior.

4. Physical symptoms

80% of postpartum depression. There are physical symptoms such as insomnia, headache, body pain, dizziness, blurred vision, tinnitus, loss of appetite, and physical fatigue. Most of these symptoms disappear as the depression subsides.

5. Loss of interest

Patients with postpartum depression often lack interest in daily activities, cannot experience pleasure in various entertainment or pleasant things, and often feel inferior, self-blame, and guilt. They feel their brains are slow to react, have difficulty thinking about problems, have decreased initiative, and are bored with life and have lost confidence in life, especially losing interest in sex, which further affects the relationship between the two parties.

There are many ways to treat postpartum depression:

1. Nutritional therapy. The vitamins and amino acids contained in food have an important impact on people's mental health. If a single nutrient is lacking, it can also cause depression, so you can eat more foods rich in vitamin B, such as whole grains, fish, etc.

2. Physical exercise. Proper exercise can improve people's mood. At the same time, you can go out and get more sun, which is beneficial to the decomposition and absorption of special anti-depressant substances in the body.

3. Psychotherapy. Cognitive therapy and self-enhancement methods are both the first choice for treating postpartum depression

4. Medicine. Taking such drugs by breastfeeding women may harm the health of the baby, so use with caution.

When a new mother is emotionally unstable, irritable, easily cries secretly, becomes depressed, insomniac, low-spirited, and often blames herself, this phenomenon is most obvious within 3-10 days after delivery. At this time, the new mother already has signs of depression. If these symptoms do not subside with breastfeeding and postpartum rehabilitation activities, and when the symptoms are severe, the new mother becomes isolated from others, does not interact with others, and even locks herself in the room, not wanting to be seen by anyone, then the mother can be diagnosed with postpartum depression.

Postpartum depression cannot be overcome or cured by personal willpower, so it is best to see a professional doctor. It is understood that the current incidence rate of postpartum depression in my country is about 17%. New mothers should not be afraid of losing face, abandon wrong prejudices, and seek timely treatment after illness
