Can I breastfeed with a low fever?

Nowadays, many girls are in very good health before giving birth, but because they consume a lot of energy during the childbirth process, and some people have caesarean sections, the wound may become inflamed, so women who are still breastfeeding will have a low fever. At this time, they not only have to take care of the child, but also take care of themselves. In addition, feeding the baby will be very tiring. Can they still breastfeed during a low fever?

What to do if you have a low-grade fever after childbirth

Low-grade fever caused by postpartum cold. Because the mother is weak and prone to sweating, if she develops a fever after sweating because of taking off clothes or being blown by the wind, she can first cover herself with a quilt of appropriate thickness to rest, apply a hot towel to the forehead, wipe the neck and armpits, or use a cooling patch to cool down. Measure the armpit temperature once every hour. As long as it does not exceed 38 degrees, there is no need to take medicine, just drink more water.

Low-grade fever caused by mastitis. If there is an obvious lump in the breast and it hurts when pressed, it is caused by breast inflammation or blocked milk ducts. When the temperature does not exceed 38 degrees, you can use a hot towel to apply to the breast or a breast pump to suck out the blockage. If the fever exceeds 38 degrees, lasts too long, or the breast pain worsens, you still need to seek medical attention immediately.

Fever caused by physical deficiency. Due to excessive blood loss during childbirth, the mother suffers from deficiency of both Qi and blood. In addition to fever, she also has symptoms such as flushed face, dizziness, tinnitus and palpitations. At this time, it is necessary to replenish blood and qi in time. You can try making porridge with cow blood, stewing eel with ginger, making porridge with red dates and longan, etc.

Fever caused by infection of the birth wound. Inflammation of the perineal wound during normal delivery can cause fever. When the perineal laceration or episiotomy wound is infected, the perineum will become red, swollen, and painful, and purulent secretions will flow out. You can apply ointment to the perineum for treatment and take a sitz bath to promote blood circulation and eliminate the infection as soon as possible.

Fever caused by inflammation of the uterus. If the water breaks for too long during delivery, or if an infection occurs due to internal examination, the lochia may turn dark red and have a foul odor. In this case, you need to go to the hospital immediately for a blood test and a gynecological examination.
