Why do nipples itch?

Why do nipples itch?

Many women's nipples always suddenly become itchy, which is usually most obvious during puberty, when the breasts begin to swell and the nipples begin to enlarge, causing itching. In addition to this situation, if adult women have itchy nipples, the pregnancy and non-pregnancy situations need to be considered. This article analyzes the causes of nipple itching and methods to prevent nipple itching at each stage. If you are interested, let’s take a look.

1. What is nipple itching?

1. Adolescent women

The breasts begin to develop rapidly, and of course the nipples must also grow quickly. At this time, attention must be paid to local hygiene. Due to rapid development, secretions increase, providing conditions for the growth of various bacteria. If you do not pay attention to local hygiene and use poor quality shower gels, soaps and bra fabrics, etc., it may cause dryness and peeling, resulting in unbearable nipple itching.

2. Itchy nipples in late pregnancy

This is a normal reaction to pregnancy. As time goes by, the milk foam and nipples will swell. You should rub them frequently with a hot towel to remove the white stuff. This is a very normal phenomenon.

3. Eczema

It occurs in people of all ages. People with a history of allergies or a family history of allergies are more likely to develop eczema. Environmental triggers of eczema include dry skin, prolonged bathing, dyes and fragrances in skin care products, detergents, environmental allergens such as wool and foam, and stress. It is usually diagnosed by physical examination and medical history.

2. How to prevent nipple itching

1. Drink plenty of water every day

Itchy skin means it needs water or moisture to moisturize. When the dermis (inner layer of skin) becomes dehydrated, it starts to itch. To get rid of this condition, all you need to do is drink plenty of water. Try to drink 8 to 10 glasses of water a day. You can also eat water-rich fruits to avoid dehydration. Some fruits contain a lot of fructose, just make sure you don’t eat fruits that are high in sugar so that your blood sugar levels don’t go high.

2. Wear loose, smooth cotton clothes

This type of clothing can help avoid further irritation of breast itching symptoms. Loose, smooth, cotton clothing will reduce friction against the breasts. Breast itching can get worse if you don't wear a bra.

3. Apply lotion to your breasts

Apply moisturizer within 3 minutes after bathing to prevent your skin from becoming dehydrated. Keep a favorite bottle of lotion nearby so you can always use it. If your skin is dry and uncomfortable, frequent application of moisturizer (every two hours) can help relieve the skin's symptoms. Consistent use of moisturizer will help prevent continued dryness of the skin.
