Will the vagina become loose after giving birth?

If a pregnant woman chooses natural childbirth, she will inevitably face a problem: the vagina becomes loose. Because there are mainly some sphincters in the female vagina, and during childbirth, the female vagina will gradually loosen to make it easier for the baby to be born. After giving birth, although the vagina will shrink a little, it will not be as tight as before giving birth each month. So after giving birth, will a woman's vagina become very loose?

Most women's vaginas become loose after giving birth.

The incidence of female pelvic floor dysfunction before pregnancy is only 1%-38%, but it increases significantly to between 49%-83% after delivery. Even for primiparas, the incidence of pelvic floor dysfunction after delivery is as high as 70.6%. Therefore, childbirth has a significant impact on female pelvic floor function.

Experts point out that whether it is a caesarean section or a natural birth, pregnancy itself is a kind of damage to the female pelvic floor, the only difference is the amount and degree. In addition, frequent sexual intercourse can also cause vaginal relaxation. As women age, hormone levels in the body decrease, and the vagina will naturally relax.

Why does pregnancy and childbirth cause vaginal relaxation?

When a woman is pregnant, as the fetus grows, the weight of the uterus also continues to increase, compressing the bottom of the female pelvis for a long time. The pelvic floor muscles are compressed and the muscle fibers are deformed, and the muscle tone will slowly decrease. In addition, during childbirth, relaxing hormones are released in the female body to help expand the birth canal, which can also cause pelvic instability, joint dislocation, etc. The pelvic floor tissue, bladder neck and urethra will also be damaged to varying degrees due to childbirth. This is the real reason why women's vaginas relax due to pregnancy, so this problem cannot be avoided by choosing a cesarean section.

Do not underestimate the problem of pelvic floor dysfunction. If it is not treated in time, it may be accompanied by complications such as uterine prolapse, bladder and urethral prolapse, internal sphincter insufficiency, urinary incontinence, etc. Therefore, mothers can have a pelvic floor function check after delivery. If vaginal relaxation is severe, they should go to the hospital for treatment in time to prevent other complications.
