Is the speed of childbearing hereditary?

I heard that for many people, it often takes a long time to give birth. Childbirth varies from person to person. For some, it can be completed in several days or 24 hours, while for some, it only takes a few hours to completely open the uterus and give birth smoothly. These make people worry whether the speed of childbirth will be passed on to their future children, causing their children to suffer the same pain as themselves during childbirth.

Experts say: It is not hereditary! The time of delivery varies from person to person

The main factors that determine the length of labor are:

1. Pelvis

The size and shape of a woman's pelvis directly affects the speed and duration of childbirth. As a general rule, the larger the pelvis, the easier it is to give birth. In addition, if the pelvis is round or transversely oval, or long anterior-posterior oval, delivery will be easy.

2. Fetus

The size, weight, fetal position, head circumference, chest circumference, and health of the fetus will affect the length of delivery. Generally speaking, if the fetus is in the posterior occipital position (lying prone with the head down), and the cross-sectional length and size are smaller than the mother's pelvis, it will be more conducive to a smooth delivery.

3. Uterine contraction intensity

Uterine contractions are neither stronger the better nor weaker the better. If the uterine contractions are too intense and the labor process is too short, it can easily cause strain on the birth canal and even harm the health of the fetus. If the uterine contractions are weak and too slow, it will not be conducive to the smooth progress of delivery, and may even cause the delivery process to be suddenly interrupted.

4. Pregnant women’s psychology

Faced with such an important moment in life, pregnant mothers are inevitably nervous and afraid. However, it is important to know that negative psychological emotions, such as tension, fear, and terror, are actually not conducive to the smooth progress of childbirth. It may lead to weak uterine contractions or pain during home delivery.

Generally, about two weeks before delivery, the fundus of the uterus will drop for first-time mothers. At this time, the upper abdomen will feel relaxed, but the lower abdomen will feel oppressed. In the last few weeks of pregnancy, there is a small amount of bleeding due to the separation of the fetal membranes from the uterine wall. This bleeding mixes with the uterine mucus plug and is discharged from the vagina, which is called red show. Showing blood is a relatively reliable sign that labor is about to begin. There will also be regular contractions in the abdomen: the pain generally lasts for 30 seconds, with an interval of 10 minutes. Later, the pain duration gradually increases and the interval time shortens, which is called regular contractions. Finally, amniotic fluid flows out of the vagina, commonly known as "water breaking". Because of the strong contraction of the uterus, the pressure in the uterine cavity gradually increases, the cervix opens wider, and the head drops, causing the fetal membrane to rupture and amniotic fluid to flow out of the vagina.
