Is induced labor more painful than giving birth?

We all know that giving birth is the greatest harm to the body. When women give birth, induced labor is just as painful as giving birth. This is mainly because induced labor ends the pregnancy before the fetus is fully developed, which can cause vaginal bleeding and abdominal pain in women. Therefore, for women who undergo induced labor, they need to recover their bodies and supplement relevant nutrients after the operation.

Induced labor refers to the use of artificial methods to induce uterine contractions to end pregnancy after 12 weeks of pregnancy due to maternal or fetal reasons. According to the gestational age at the time of induced labor, it can be divided into mid-term induced labor (14 to 28 weeks) and late-term induced labor (after 28 weeks).

The ideal method of promoting cervical ripening is similar to its natural ripening process, will not cause excessive uterine contraction, will not affect uterine blood flow, and will not endanger the safety of the fetus and mother. There are many ways to promote cervical ripening, but there is still no perfect and effective method. Currently, the commonly used methods are divided into two categories: non-drug and drug:

1. Non-drug methods

① Artificial membrane stripping (basically not used); ② Artificial membrane rupture (not effective when used alone); ③ Water bag or Foley catheter (not routinely used); ④ Hygroscopic dilator or Lamicel rod (rarely used); ⑤ Nipple stimulation (not often used); ⑥ Acupuncture therapy (basically not used).

2. Drug therapy

① Oxytocin, small dose and low concentration intravenous drip; ② Prostaglandin PGE2 (routine use); ③ PGE2 gel intracervical administration (rarely used); ④ PGE2 vaginal controlled release tablets - Probeson (commonly used); ⑤ Misoprostol (not routinely used); ⑥ Vaginal placement of misoprostol; ⑦ Carboprostol suppository (basically not used); ⑧ Mifepristone (not used for late induction of labor).

The pain of surgery is divided into 12 levels, and the pain of childbirth is at the top level, so induced labor is generally not as painful as childbirth. Here are the reasons:

1. With the continuous advancement of science and technology, painless abortion has become popular. Painless induced labor means that the patient is anesthetized during the operation, allowing the patient to easily end childbirth without any pain, while also avoiding various complications of induced labor.

2. Natural or artificially induced uterine contractions feel the same to the mother. For some women who are pregnant before the full term or need to terminate the pregnancy for some reasons and have induced labor, although the cervix is immature and difficult to dilate. However, due to the cervical ripening effect of various labor-inducing drugs and the relatively small size of the fetus, the resistance it encounters is also small, so the force and time required for delivery are reduced. It will not be larger or take longer than a normal delivery. Even faster. In other words, as long as the induction method is appropriate, whether it is induced labor for full-term pregnancy, post-term pregnancy or premature pregnancy, there is no problem of greater pain than normal delivery.

Finally, mothers are advised to think twice before choosing induced abortion, and not to do anything that they will regret in the future. After all, induced abortion can cause great harm to the mothers' own bodies. In addition, you must choose a regular hospital for induced abortion and avoid going to an unlicensed hospital.
