What to do if you have appendicitis during pregnancy

Being pregnant is a very happy thing, but for some women, it is very troublesome if they develop diseases in their bodies after pregnancy. Appendicitis, a common clinical problem, may also occur in pregnant women. It is very troublesome for a pregnant woman to have appendicitis, especially since it is likely to affect the fetus. So what should you do if you have appendicitis pain during pregnancy?

1. If it is early pregnancy (1~3 months), regardless of the severity of the clinical manifestations, surgical treatment should be performed; non-surgical treatment can be used in the second trimester (4-6 months). Of course, the safety factor of surgical treatment at this time is also greater than that in early pregnancy. It is generally believed that this is the best time to surgically remove the appendix; in the late pregnancy, surgical treatment should be performed. Even if premature birth is caused by surgical stimulation, most babies can survive, and the operation has little impact on pregnant women. Considering the impact of medication on the fetus, mothers who love their children often tend to adopt a strategy of endurance, which is actually very harmful. Some patients are afraid of surgery and prefer non-surgical treatments, that is, Western medicine uses large doses of antibiotics to control infection and make the inflammation subside as soon as possible.

2. Traditional Chinese medicine takes clearing away heat and detoxifying, promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis, and purging the interior and attacking the lower part as the treatment principles. The commonly used prescription is "Da Huang Mu Dan Pi Tang". However, if pregnant women take medication during pregnancy, the drugs will enter the fetus through the placenta. Some drugs will affect the development of fetal organs and cause deformities. Chinese herbal medicines that promote blood circulation, remove blood stasis, and clear the interior will accelerate blood circulation, increase intestinal peristalsis, and promote uterine contraction, which can easily cause premature birth or miscarriage. Therefore, once a pregnant woman suffers from appendicitis, in principle it is best to undergo surgery as soon as possible.

3. If a pregnant woman has appendicitis, it depends on the length of the pregnancy. Generally, the treatment method is determined based on the length of the pregnancy. If appendicitis is discovered in the early stages, generally within the first three months, then whether it is acute or chronic, surgery should be performed as soon as possible.
