Can I breastfeed while taking anesthesia?

There are many things that women cannot do while breastfeeding. Because women not only need to protect their own health, but also provide adequate nutrition for their babies. During breastfeeding, women should ensure nutrition and try not to use medications. Many factors can affect the quality of women's milk. Some women need anesthesia while breastfeeding. So, can you breastfeed while taking cannabis medicine?

During breastfeeding, you may occasionally need anesthesia, but don't worry.

There are two reasons:

1. The human body has the function of metabolizing and detoxifying drugs. Breastfeed your child before taking the strong medicine, and squeeze out the milk in advance and store it in the refrigerator's fresh-keeping layer. After the child finishes eating the stored milk, the effect of the anesthetic on the body on the milk will be negligible.

2. If you don’t have much milk and cannot store it in advance, then the feasibility of anesthesia still exists. This is because you can temporarily choose to use milk powder as a transition method.

Special reminder:

1. Take the milk out of the refrigerator. It should be placed in warm water and heated to between 30 degrees and 40 degrees. The most important thing is not to scald the child. Secondly, it should not be too cold to prevent the child from being unable to adapt.

2. It is not an excessive method to feed the baby with soaked milk powder temporarily. Pay attention to the total amount specified in the instructions and never exceed the amount to avoid indigestion in the child.

1) You need to see what kind of anesthesia it is. If it is local anesthesia, the dosage is small and it will not have much impact on the baby. If it is general or half-body anesthesia for surgery, you need to wait for about 2 days to resume breastfeeding. Remember to express your milk regularly to reduce the chance of milk regurgitation.

2) Drug selection: The choice of drugs should be cautious. Determine the indication for medication and select a drug that has good efficacy, a short half-life, and is rapidly excreted from the body.

3) Method of medication: The method of medication should be clever. The best route of administration is oral or topical, which can reduce the drug content in breast milk; try to reduce the number of times the drug is taken per day, avoid continuous use or use of sustained-release dosage forms of the drug, thereby reducing the amount absorbed by the infant.

4) Adjust feeding methods. Breastfeed before each medication, and extend the interval between medication and the next breastfeeding as much as possible to help the baby avoid the peak period of the drug when sucking breast milk.
