After pregnancy, leucorrhea is like thick snot

After a woman becomes pregnant, the amount of leucorrhea will increase, but for some women, the leucorrhea appears to be like pus and mucus. This is mostly caused by inflammation, especially the chance of suffering from vaginitis is very high. It may also be that after a woman becomes pregnant, the hormones in her body are constantly changing, which can also cause an increase in leucorrhea. However, these are all normal phenomena. If you have leucorrhea with pus and mucus, it is best to go to the hospital for relevant examinations, and pay more attention to the hygiene of the genitals.

Pregnant woman with leucorrhea like snot

There are two types of bloody vaginal discharge: physiological and pathological. Generally speaking, some women will experience ovulation bleeding during their ovulation period, also known as mid-menstrual bleeding, which refers to a small amount of bleeding between two normal menstrual periods, which may be accompanied by varying degrees of lower abdominal pain. If the symptoms are mild, no treatment is needed. If the bleeding is heavy or affects fertility, medication can be used for treatment.

There are also possible diseases such as: cervical polyps, acute vaginitis, cervical erosion, cervical cancer, uterine submucous fibroids, etc. In addition, sometimes due to the placement of an intrauterine contraceptive ring, there is some blood mixed in the leucorrhea. It is recommended to go to the hospital for relevant examinations as soon as possible to rule out the possibility of disease.

Do I still have leucorrhea when I am pregnant?

Generally speaking, after a woman becomes pregnant, under the influence of estrogen and progesterone secreted by the placenta, the vaginal mucosa becomes congested and edematous, and its appearance becomes purple-blue. The vaginal folds increase, and the condition becomes soft and elastic, with an increased surface area. At this time, the permeability of the vaginal mucosa increases, and the exudate increases significantly compared to the non-pregnant state.

The glandular secretions of the cervical canal increase, so the vaginal secretions will be more and may also be thicker than usual. It is normal for the leucorrhea to be transparent, watery, and occasionally light yellow and have no odor. If the vulva does not itch and the leucorrhea has no odor, there is no need to worry. This is a normal physiological change and no treatment is required. However, if you experience vulva itching and pain, yellow leucorrhea, strange smell, or other symptoms, you need to go to the hospital for treatment.

The role of leucorrhea

Leucorrhea is a normal vaginal discharge in women. Under normal circumstances, it is odorless, slightly acidic and slightly viscous. It has the function of moistening the vagina, excreting waste, and inhibiting the growth of bacteria in the vagina.

What changes will occur during pregnancy?

One of the changes in vaginal discharge during early pregnancy is the change in amount. After pregnancy, most expectant mothers will notice a significant increase in vaginal discharge. This is because the estrogen level in the expectant mother's body increases significantly, and the amount of leucorrhea increases accordingly.

As you get closer to giving birth, your vaginal discharge may increase in volume and may look different than usual. In early pregnancy, the cervical mucus plug fills the entire cervical canal, forming a protective barrier. In the third trimester, the cervix begins to thin and open, and cervical mucus is discharged. These secretions look like egg white or clear nasal mucus on a cold day. It may even be excreted as a large mass of gel, slightly bloody.

How to deal with increased vaginal discharge during pregnancy

Increased leucorrhea during pregnancy may cause some inconvenience to expectant mothers. You can use sanitary pads appropriately, rinse the vulva with warm water, and try to keep the vulva clean and hygienic. In addition, after pregnancy, it is best to choose loose underwear, pure cotton and other natural materials, which will make the expectant mother feel more comfortable, while keeping the vulva dry and reducing the occurrence of infection.
