What is labor pain?

Many people may have heard of this saying: the labor pain a woman endures during childbirth is the limit of the pain the human body can endure. Therefore, this has caused a panic in the minds of many women who have never given birth, making them believe that giving birth is a very painful thing. Many women do not choose to have children because they are afraid that they will feel very painful during childbirth. So how painful is it for women during childbirth?

What is labor pain?

Labor pain refers to the pain felt by a woman during childbirth. Some people classify pain into twelve levels, and labor pain is the highest level, which is unbearable pain.

Labor pain is caused by the contraction of the uterine muscle tissue. During delivery, the more the fetus's head falls, the greater the pressure on the uterine opening, and the mother feels more pain. When pain strikes, the pituitary gland receives this signal and releases more hormones that make you feel pain. Once the hormones are activated, even if the contractions of the uterus can be controlled and slowed down, the pain cannot be stopped.

How painful is labor pain

A human can withstand 45 del (units) of pain, but a woman has to endure 57 del of pain during childbirth, which is roughly equivalent to breaking 20 bones. In other words, it is similar to the pain during menstruation, but many times more severe than dysmenorrhea.

According to relevant statistics, about 44% of first-time mothers feel unbearable pain. To them, whether labor pain is painful or not is just a "beautiful lie." Some women even feel that the pain during labor is so severe that they want to die, which may be related to psychological factors.

Some mothers feel that the labor pain is not as unbearable as they imagined. During delivery, the uterus may experience contractions, and the mother will feel distension and discomfort in the abdomen and lumbar region, but the pain will be reduced after the contractions. Some women have larger pelvises, so when the fetus is delivered from the birth canal, the pain is not as severe as imagined.

And this kind of pain is different from other pains, because the mother is in pain and happy, full of hope, the joy of welcoming a new life and the eagerness to get rid of the big belly. Male friends can try it out in a childbirth experience center, but they probably won’t be able to bear it because they don’t have the psychological factors to support them.
