Urinary incontinence and amniotic fluid rupture in pregnant women

Urinary incontinence and amniotic fluid rupture in pregnant women

In the late stage of pregnancy, when delivery is about to begin, the amniotic fluid may break. At this time, you should go to the hospital in time to prepare for delivery. The rupture of amniotic fluid and urinary incontinence in pregnant women are two completely different symptoms. Amniotic fluid is a transparent, odorless substance. Of course, urine has a certain odor, so the difference between them is quite large. Moreover, when the amniotic fluid ruptures, pregnant women will involuntarily feel that liquid is being discharged.

Urinary incontinence and amniotic fluid rupture in pregnant women

Vaginal discharge is generally a little thicker, feels stickier, and takes a little longer to produce. There are several types of enuresis (urinary incontinence), such as stress urinary incontinence and urge urinary incontinence. You will usually have symptoms of urinary incontinence and will not suddenly wet the bed at night unless you have had this problem in the past. When the water breaks, the amniotic fluid that flows out is relatively clear and usually colorless. Our urine is usually yellow. There is also a difference in the smell. Urine usually has a urine odor, while the amniotic fluid that flows out is usually odorless. If you really can't tell the difference, you can go to the hospital and get a pH test strip to test it. The pH value of urine is different from that of amniotic fluid, and amniotic fluid is alkaline.

Another thing is that after the water breaks, the water may flow out of the vagina at any time, while urine is usually discharged under conscious control or not, so it can be distinguished. When the water breaks, it usually flows out on its own and cannot be controlled. The smell is also different. It is very dangerous if the amniotic fluid breaks too early. If you cannot distinguish between urinary incontinence and broken water, and you experience watery discharge from below, you should go to the hospital for a check-up to rule out premature rupture of membranes and ensure the safety of the pregnant woman and her baby.

Precautions for pregnant women before delivery

This is also very common in clinical practice. When doing pelvic measurements in the late pregnancy, especially for pregnant women who complain of increased leucorrhea, yellowing, and odor, we must conduct a pathogen test and provide timely treatment if there is intrauterine infection.

If the birth canal is severely infected, the baby will have to be delivered through the birth canal in the late pregnancy. Especially if the labor is long, the baby will stay in the vagina for a long time, and the chance of infection to the baby is relatively high.

Women in the late stages of pregnancy must treat vaginitis.

If you have had a reproductive tract infection in the past, you must treat it before giving birth. Vaginal inflammation must be cured before giving birth to prevent the child from being infected during delivery.

Some pregnant women suffer from sexually transmitted diseases or serious reproductive tract infections and choose to have a cesarean section for this reason.

In the current clinical practice of HPV virus infection, some pregnant women often ask us this question. HPV virus is human papillomavirus infection, which is closely related to cervical cancer. Cervical cancer is first caused by HPV virus infection, which then causes cervical lesions, and cervical lesions then develop into cervical cancer.

Some women undergo cervical lesion examinations during pregnancy and are found to be infected with the HPV virus. They often ask us whether this will affect vaginal delivery. Generally, it is not a contraindication to vaginal delivery.

However, for some viral infections, if you choose to have a cesarean section for type 2 virus infection, the child may be infected during the delivery process. The doctor will help the pregnant woman choose the method of delivery based on the type of illness she has. I hope all pregnant women and their families are more aware of this and wish you good health.
