Does menstrual breast milk have no nutritional value?

Many people say that women should not breastfeed after giving birth and menstruation, because breastfeeding at this time will lead to insufficient nutrition intake for the fetus, a decrease in nutrients in the mother's milk, and the discharge will be accompanied by menstruation. However, neonatologists still recommend breastfeeding for girls. The nutrition in girls’ breast milk has nothing to do with menstruation and will not lead to nutritional deficiencies. So, is it true that menstrual breast milk has no nutritional value?

1. The quality will not change

Menstruation is produced by the regular shedding of the endometrium and bleeding, while breast milk is produced by the joint action of the brain, prolactin and mammary glands. The two do not affect each other, and it cannot be said that breast milk becomes dirty when menstruation comes.

In addition, postpartum menstruation is caused by changes in the mother's own hormone levels and has no effect on the composition of breast milk, let alone "poisoning" the baby.

2. The quantity may decrease

It is not absolute and it is not harmful to the baby.

When menstruation resumes, the body's hormones change, and some mothers may feel it, such as breast swelling. This may have some impact on the psychology of breastfeeding mothers and affect milk secretion, but the vast majority of mothers do not feel it. Moreover, these body reactions will return to normal after the menstrual period ends.

Generally speaking, even if menstruation comes, there is no obvious change in the amount and composition of milk secretion, and it has no effect on the health of the child. Never wean your baby because of menstruation.

Breastfeeding, stick with it as long as you can!

There is absolutely no need to stop breastfeeding if you have your period during breastfeeding.

Breast milk contains at least 400 kinds of nutrients. Even after the baby is one year old, breast milk can still provide the baby with some energy, high-quality protein, calcium and other nutrients, as well as various immune protection factors.

If you stick to breastfeeding, your baby will be less likely to be obese or overweight, it will be more helpful for the development of the immune system, and it will be more conducive to promoting close contact between mother and child and promoting the development of the child's sensory, psychological and cognitive abilities.
