Why do I have leg cramps a week after abortion?

The harm caused to the body by medical abortion is no less than that caused by artificial abortion surgery. There are also many things to pay attention to after medical abortion, such as not engaging in heavy physical labor and strenuous activities within one month, and avoiding contact with cold water. Keep the vulva clean and hygienic, and avoid sexual intercourse within one month. Medical abortion also has side effects. It can easily lead to incomplete abortion and require uterine curettage, which can cause great damage to the uterus. Why do some people experience leg cramps one month after having an abortion with medication?

1. Patients often come to the outpatient clinic for leg cramps. Many people think it is due to calcium deficiency, but long-term and large-scale calcium supplementation has no obvious effect. After examination, it was found that most of them were not calcium deficient or only had a mild calcium deficiency, but many of them had varying degrees of limb arteriosclerosis and insufficient blood supply to the lower limbs.

Lower limb arteriosclerosis obliterans is related to factors such as hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, smoking, and genetics.

2. In the early stage of the disease, plasma lipoproteins are deposited in the arterial intima, resulting in fatty streaks, arterial intima hyperplasia and atherosclerotic plaque formation, which eventually leads to arterial stenosis or blockage. The disease progresses slowly in the early stages and may have no obvious symptoms. As the disease progresses, limb ischemia may occur. In addition, arteriosclerosis is also the underlying cause of coronary heart disease and cerebral stroke.

The early symptoms of the disease include coldness, numbness and pain in the affected limb. If the iliac artery is blocked, the entire buttocks and lower limbs will feel weak and painful after walking. If symptoms occur in the calf, it may indicate femoral artery occlusion. As the disease progresses, ischemia of the affected limb worsens, and persistent pain in the lower limbs will occur even at rest.

3. The blood supply to the affected limb is reduced. To the naked eye, one can see that the toes, feet or calves become pale, the skin becomes thinner, the muscles atrophy, and the toenails become thicker and deformed. The temperature is low when touched and the dorsalis pedis artery cannot be felt. In severe ischemia, lower limb ulcers and gangrene may be seen.

Patients with arteriosclerosis obliterans should eat a low-salt, low-fat diet and eat more foods rich in vitamins, such as whole grains, fresh vegetables, beans, fruits, etc. Get appropriate physical exercise. It is particularly emphasized that quitting smoking is very helpful in preventing and treating vascular stenosis.
