Hypertrophy of the labia minora is a congenital condition. Many women feel distressed when this happens because in daily life, there is a tendency for friction between underwear and labia minora, which makes people feel very uncomfortable and can easily lead to some inflammatory problems. It will also have a certain impact on aesthetics. When the labia minora becomes enlarged, it can be treated through plastic surgery. Let us learn about it.
The width of the labia minora in the middle of a normal woman is less than 2 cm, with natural and beautiful curves, pink inside, brown and yellowish brown on the top and outside, and there is no discomfort during sexual intercourse. However, some women's labia minora develop excessively and exceed the normal range, which is called labia minora hypertrophy. Some people with labia minora hypertrophy have no symptoms, but some people often experience some local discomfort. For example, the enlarged labia minora rubs against underwear when walking, causing genital pain. Squeezing and friction when riding a bicycle can also cause pain. During sexual intercourse, the penis is pulled into the vagina when inserted, causing inconvenience. Some people also experience severe pain due to squeezing during sexual intercourse, which is very painful. In addition, the enlarged labia minora appear dark brown, curled and ugly, and the shape is also unpleasant.
1. Simple excision and suture method. Gently pull the labia minora apart to the side, determine the excess part of the labia minora that needs to be removed, mark it, directly remove the excess part of the labia minora along the designed incision line, and suture the wound edges. 2. Central resection and suture method. According to the hypertrophy of the labia minora, mark the parts to be epidermis removed on the inner and outer sides of the labia minora, remove the epidermis along the marked area, and after complete hemostasis, bring the wound edges together and suture. If the labia minora are thick and difficult to pull together and suture after excision, full-thickness excision of the labia minora and layered sutures can be performed. However, when performing full-thickness excision, the anterior and posterior ends need to be retained as pedicles to avoid ischemic necrosis of the lateral edge of the labia minora. 3. Wedge resection. According to the hypertrophy of the labia minora, a wedge-shaped incision line is designed at the most obvious protruding part of the hypertrophy. The protruding part of the labia minora is removed along the designed line. After thorough hemostasis, layered interrupted sutures are performed, which can reduce the labia minora in both width and length at the same time.
Enlarged or asymmetrical labia minora are mostly due to congenital reasons, but a small number of cases are caused by chronic inflammation, long-term pulling of the labia minora, external male hormone administration, etc., which lead to extensive hypertrophy of the labia minora. Slight hypertrophy or excessive length will not cause any impact. If the enlarged labia majora causes some trouble, surgical treatment will be required. |
