Sperm abnormality rate 99% successful pregnancy

Sperm abnormality rate 99% successful pregnancy

A healthy mature woman produces only one egg every month, but for men, hundreds of millions of sperm are formed in their lifetime. However, not every sperm can successfully lead to conception. The sperm mortality rate and deformity rate in men are very high. The sperm deformity rate will affect the possibility of conception to a certain extent. When a man's sperm abnormality rate reaches 99%, can he still successfully make a woman pregnant?

First, as long as it is not 100% deformed, there is a possibility of pregnancy

In fact, if many men go for a sperm test, they will find a certain rate of sperm deformity, and the proportion will be higher in older men.

However, as long as not 100% of the sperm are deformed, there is a possibility of normal conception.

If the sperm deformity rate is above 95%, multiple reexaminations and appropriate treatment are recommended.

If multiple treatments are ineffective and the woman is older, in vitro fertilization can be considered. The current intracytoplasmic sperm injection technology can select a single relatively normal sperm for intracytoplasmic microinjection into the egg, thereby achieving conception.

Second, sperm abnormalities do not mean abnormal offspring, and you can still have beautiful babies.

Sperm deformity and offspring deformity are two different things. Do not equate the two. It is currently believed that sperm deformity has a certain relationship with fertilization ability. Morphological testing is an indicator for evaluating sperm quality, but there is no obvious correlation with fetal deformity. Fetal deformity is more related to factors such as genetics, infection, maternal environment, medication, and adverse external environment.

What to do if the sperm deformity rate is 99%

Abnormal sperm also exist in the semen of normal people, and the percentage is generally less than 30%. If the percentage of abnormal sperm is higher than 50%, it is called high abnormality rate sperm, which can lead to infertility. Experts say that an increase in abnormal sperm will reduce the possibility of conception, but there is no necessary link between sperm abnormalities and the birth of abnormal offspring. Sperm abnormalities reduce the chance of conception. During sexual intercourse, a normal male ejaculates tens of millions of sperm. Among such a large number of sperm, only a very small number can actually reach the ampulla of the female fallopian tube and get the chance to contact the egg. Therefore, even if the sperm deformity rate is 99%, successful pregnancy is still possible.

The sperm deformity rate is not given in the fourth edition of the "Manual of Laboratory Tests of Human Semen and Sperm-Cervical Mucus Interactions" published by the World Health Organization (WHO). It only states that when the sperm rate with normal morphology is <15%, the in vitro fertilization rate is significantly reduced. It is generally believed that the sperm deformity rate in normal semen should not exceed 20-30%. If it is greater than this standard, it will affect natural conception. The main treatments for male infertility include drug therapy, artificial insemination and in vitro fertilization. The general treatment cycle of drug treatment is 3 to 6 months. Since the human spermatogenesis cycle is 70 to 74 days, the drug generally has no effect within 3 months, especially in terms of density. It should be possible to tell whether the medication is effective within 3 to 6 months. If the effect is not good, artificial insemination or in vitro fertilization is recommended.
