What should I do if my menstrual bleeding does not stop?

Women have menstruation every month. Menstruation can help women regulate their metabolism and promote their healthy development. Under normal circumstances, a woman's menstrual period lasts about a week. There are slight differences depending on the woman's physical condition, but generally the differences are not that big. However, some women find that their menstrual bleeding does not stop when their period comes, which may be caused by a disease. So, what should you do if your menstrual bleeding does not stop?

Menstrual disorders are one of the common gynecological symptoms, and any menstrual volume and interval that are different from the normal menstrual cycle fall into this category. Common types include menorrhagia, oligomenorrhea, frequent menstruation, and infrequent menstruation. Menstrual disorders are mainly caused by endocrine dysfunction, but can also be caused by systemic diseases or local diseases of the reproductive organs. "Irregular menstruation" in traditional Chinese medicine is equivalent to a part of "menstrual disorders" in modern medicine, and does not include menstrual abnormalities caused by internal and external genital organ lesions. The disease is mainly caused by the seven emotions, the six external evils, or congenital kidney deficiency, frequent childbirth, excessive fatigue, which damages the internal organs, malfunctions of the kidneys, liver and spleen, and imbalance of qi and blood, resulting in damage to the Chong and Ren meridians and irregular menstruation.

Common clinical syndromes include:

1. Blood-heat type: Symptoms include heavy menstrual flow, bright red or dark red color, thick and sticky texture; or small blood clots, often accompanied by irritability, thirst, yellow urine, constipation, red tongue, yellow tongue coating, and slippery and rapid pulse.

2. Cold blood type: Symptoms include delayed menstruation, scanty menstruation, dark red color or blood clots, cold and painful vaginal discharge, relieved by heat, fear of cold and cold limbs, white tongue coating, and deep and tight pulse.

3. Qi and blood deficiency type: symptoms include early or late menstruation, increased or decreased menstrual volume, prolonged menstruation, light color and thin menstruation; or pain in the lower abdomen, or dizziness, or fatigue, pale or sallow complexion, poor appetite and loose stools, light red tongue and weak pulse.

4. Blood deficiency type: symptoms include delayed menstruation, scanty menstruation, light red color, no clots, or lower abdominal pain; or dizziness, palpitations, insomnia, pale or sallow complexion, light red tongue, and weak pulse.

5. Blood deficiency and Qi stagnation type: Symptoms include delayed menstruation, scanty and light-colored menstruation, abdominal distension and pain, pale or sallow complexion, thin body, dry skin, dizziness, palpitations, depression, chest discomfort, breast distension and flank pain, dark red tongue, thin yellow tongue coating, and stringy or weak pulse.

6. Liver depression and spleen deficiency type: Symptoms include irregular menstrual cycle, more or less menstrual flow, purple-red color, clots, menstrual flow is not smooth, or there is pain in the chest, ribs, breasts, and lower abdomen, abdominal distension and discomfort, occasional sighing, warm feeling and less appetite, thin white or thin yellow tongue coating, and wiry pulse.

7. Liver and kidney deficiency type: Symptoms include irregular menstruation, scanty menstruation, pale and dark color, and clear quality; or lumbar and sacral pain, or dizziness and tinnitus, pale tongue with little coating, and weak pulse.

8. Blood stasis type: Symptoms include scanty menstrual flow, dark purple color, blood clots, abdominal distension and pain that refuses to be pressed, which is relieved after the blood clots are discharged, normal tongue, or dark purple, or with small ecchymosis, and thin or stringy pulse.
