What causes vaginal itching after menstruation?

Many women believe that poor personal hygiene is the main cause of vulvar itching. In fact, in real life, candidal infection, vaginitis or other gynecological diseases may also cause vulvar itching. Therefore, vulvar itching should not be underestimated. Once this happens, it is best to seek professional examination to rule out whether you have a gynecological disease and then receive symptomatic treatment to eliminate the problem.

Vulvitis is not necessarily caused by unhygienic conditions. Vulvitis usually does not cause any discomfort. However, when the systemic or local vaginal immunity decreases, Candida will multiply and cause symptoms. Common causes of vulvitis include pregnancy, use of antibiotics (anti-inflammatory drugs), obesity, wearing tight synthetic underwear, overwork, tension, etc.

Vulvar itching after menstruation is mostly caused by infection, the most common of which are viral infection and bacterial infection. Candidal vaginitis is a common vaginitis, which is mostly caused by Candida albicans. The bacteria usually parasitize in the vagina. When the sugar content and acidity in the vagina increase, the bacteria multiply rapidly and cause inflammation. Therefore, if female friends find that their vulva is itchy after menstruation, it is best to go to the hospital for a routine leucorrhea examination 3-7 days after the menstruation is over.

Vulvar itching after menstruation may also be caused by not paying attention to menstrual hygiene during menstruation, especially the use of unclean menstrual products, which causes the vulva to be contaminated by unclean objects. Symptoms include a feeling of heaviness and burning in the perineum and increased vaginal discharge.

1. Symptoms of female vulvar itching

1. The symptoms of vulvitis mainly include itching, pain or burning sensation of the vulva, which worsens when walking, working, riding a bicycle, having sexual intercourse and urinating. The vulva skin is red and swollen with increased exudate, scratches, and sometimes ulcers. The skin is broken or there are patches of blisters, papules, and eczema. After a long course of the disease, the skin becomes thickened and rough, the color changes, and even skin cracking occurs. There is also often an increase in vaginal discharge, which is yellow and pus-like.

2. Vulvitis may cause local pain, itching, or fever, secretions, ulcers, tenderness in the vulva, etc. The patient has no desire or interest in sexual life, is very afraid of the male's sexual demands, has no pleasure in sexual intercourse, and is difficult to orgasm. When suffering from acute vulvitis, sexual intercourse will aggravate the patient's pain, promote the spread of inflammation or cause secondary infection, making the inflammation more protracted and difficult to treat.

2. Precautions for vulvar itching after menstruation

1. Sexual intercourse is prohibited during treatment, or condoms should be used to prevent cross infection. Vaginal medication and sitz baths should be avoided during menstruation. Women with recurrent episodes should check their husband's urine and prostatic fluid, and repeat the tests if necessary. If positive, both should be treated together.

2. Pay attention to personal hygiene and keep the vulva clean and dry; wash and change underwear frequently, do not share bath towels or bathtubs with others, do not wear underwear made of nylon or similar fabrics, and bath towels and underwear used during illness should be boiled and disinfected.

3. Pay attention to menstrual hygiene, change menstrual pads frequently during menstruation, and wash them frequently; keep the vulva clean and dry, do not use hot water to wash, and do not use soap to scrub.

When vulvar pruritus occurs, patients with vulvar pruritus need timely treatment. Patients with vulvar pruritus need to understand the impact and harm of vulvar pruritus, and there are many methods to examine vulvar pruritus clinically.
