How does labor pain speed up the opening of the cervix?

For pregnant mothers, it is a special period, with both surprise and fear. The surprise is that the baby is about to come, but the fear is that special physical symptoms will occur during pregnancy, especially in the late pregnancy. Many pregnant women will experience symptoms of labor pains, which are very uncomfortable. They can neither sit nor lie down. In this situation, in addition to relaxing their mind, they can do some actions to speed up the dilation of the cervix, such as getting out of bed and walking around, stimulating the breasts, and massaging acupoints. So besides these, what other methods are there to speed up the dilation of the cervix during labor pains?

How does labor pain speed up the opening of the cervix?

1. Get out of bed and walk around

If you are in labor, pregnant women must not stay huddled in bed. They should get out of bed and walk around with the help of their family or midwives. Walking around not only distracts their attention but also helps to open the cervix.

2. Stimulate breasts

If the uterine contractions are not strong enough, the pregnant woman can, with the help of a doctor, stimulate the breasts to strengthen the uterine contractions. This method is more effective, but it requires the guidance of a doctor and cannot be done casually.

3. Acupoint massage

This requires the guidance of an expert doctor and cannot be done by yourself. If conditions do not permit, this generally cannot be done.

What does labor pain feel like?

1. Physical pain

If the uterus contracts regularly, it will stretch or tear the uterine muscle fibers and cause severe pain. When the fetus passes through the birth canal, it compresses the birth canal, especially causing damage and traction to the lower uterine segment and cervix.

① Pain all over the body: The uterus contracts due to the squeezing of the fetus, causing pain all over the body.

② Stretching pain: When the fetus is about to be born, the soft birth canal such as the uterine muscles, vagina and perineum are stretched, and you can feel the pain of the tissue and skin being stretched.

③Compression pain: The nerves in the pelvis are compressed by the fetal head. My waist, hips and heels hurt a lot.

2. Psychological pain

Most pregnant women lack childbirth experience and have been exposed to all kinds of exaggerated information about childbirth pain in their lives, which makes them full of fear of childbirth, causing muscle tension, leading to intensified and prolonged uterine contractions, and aggravated pain. This will cause pregnant women to sweat a lot.

When pregnant women are in labor, they should not stay curled up in bed all the time, as this will prolong the time it takes for the baby to come out and will also cause constant pain. Therefore, pregnant women should get out of bed and walk around more to promote the time it takes for the baby to come out of the belly. It can also stimulate the breasts and make the uterus contract more strongly. If conditions permit, degree massage can also be used.
