Will swimming lead to an unexpected pregnancy?

If women want to get pregnant, the sperm and egg must successfully combine and successfully implant in the uterus. This is a necessary condition. Now there are swimming pools in many places in cities, and most of the swimming pools are shared by men and women, so some people worry about unexpected pregnancy when swimming in the swimming pool. In fact, even if there is such a possibility, the probability is very small.

Will swimming lead to an unexpected pregnancy?

Why swimming in a swimming pool won't cause pregnancy

1. The combination of sperm and egg requires the cooperation of many sperm

The human egg cell has a protective layer called "corona radiata" and "zona pellucida" on the outside, while the sperm head has an organelle called "acrosome", which contains the acrosome enzyme system. When the sperm enters the fallopian tube and approaches the egg, these enzymes are released, dissolving the corona radiata and zona pellucida. The amount of enzyme contained in one sperm is far from enough. Only with the joint efforts of hundreds or thousands of sperm can a channel be opened up to reach the egg cell directly, allowing the lucky sperm to break through the last barrier of the egg cell.

2. The sperm entering the swimming pool is far from reaching the normal semen standard

The World Health Organization's criteria for normal semen are: semen volume 2-6 ml, sperm count greater than 20 million/ml. The normal sperm count in human semen is about 40-60 million/ml. When it is lower than 10 million/ml, medical means of artificial insemination must be used.

Assuming that the swimming pool is 50 meters long, 10 meters wide and 2 meters deep, and 10 men in the pool do things they shouldn't do within nearly an hour, then about 50 milliliters of semen, containing about 3 billion sperm, will be released into the 1,000 cubic meters of water.

The sperm concentration was diluted to 3 million per cubic meter. Calculated at this concentration, in order to complete the mission, at least 20 million sperms are needed to launch an attack (one-tenth of the normal amount of a large force), which means that at least 7 cubic meters of water need to enter the girl's body.

3. The water in the swimming pool is not suitable for sperm survival

The water in the swimming pool has been treated with disinfection, clarification, and algaecide. Disinfection generally uses chlorine-containing disinfectants such as bleach, clarification generally uses polymerized alumina to precipitate suspended impurities in the water, and algaecide is achieved by adding copper sulfate to the water. It is not difficult to imagine that the oxidizing nature of chlorine-containing disinfectants, the toxicity of copper sulfate, and the osmotic pressure of pool water that is far different from that of body fluids will all make the tadpoles feel uncomfortable.

The testicles where sperm are located require a temperature of 35.5°C to 36.5°C, which is 1 to 1.5°C lower than normal body temperature. In a swimming pool that has been disinfected with chlorine, sperm can only survive for 1-2 hours, and after liquefaction, the sperm moves at a speed of about 2 to 3 mm per minute.

4. Women need to be in their ovulation period to get pregnant

Finally, even if the sperm can survive and enter the fallopian tube, pregnancy is only possible when the woman is in her ovulation period and a mature egg is released. This condition restriction reduces the possibility of pregnancy. In other words, even if all the above conditions are eliminated, it is impossible for a woman to get pregnant if she swims during her non-ovulation period.

Women's ovulation period: generally about 14 to 16 days before the next menstrual period.
