What to do if progesterone is high during pregnancy

During pregnancy, especially in the early stages of pregnancy, progesterone levels will be checked. Generally speaking, low progesterone is not good for women's bodies and fetuses, and high progesterone does not have any impact on human health. Therefore, if high progesterone is found during pregnancy test, there is no need to worry too much. However, there are many things that pregnant women need to pay attention to when checking progesterone, which will be introduced in detail below.

1. What to do if progesterone is high in early pregnancy

If an ultrasound has been done and it shows a normal intrauterine pregnancy, the impact will not be that big. As long as the progesterone level is not low, the impact will not be significant. Don't worry too much and just have regular prenatal checkups.

Progesterone levels fluctuate within a certain range, and a slightly higher level will not have any impact. Generally speaking, low progesterone levels are caused by poor ovarian function, while high levels are caused by unknown reasons.

2. How to check progesterone

The progesterone test is conducted by drawing venous blood from the pregnant mother. Since the progesterone content is not affected by eating, the progesterone test does not require fasting, and the mother can drink water during the test. Generally, after the examination in the morning, the results can be obtained in the afternoon.

3. Precautions for progesterone test

During the entire menstrual cycle of a normal non-pregnant woman, the progesterone level is lowest before ovulation, begins to rise after ovulation, and reaches its highest level during the luteal phase. Before ovulation, the progesterone level in body fluids should be less than 2 ng/mL, and after ovulation it should be greater than 5 ng/mL. If you become pregnant, the progesterone level will initially remain at the level of the luteal phase. After the placenta is formed, the hormones secreted by the placenta will increase the progesterone level in the pregnant woman's body to 100-200 ng/ml, which is dozens to hundreds of times that of a non-pregnant woman.

Progesterone, also known as progesterone, abbreviated as "P" in English, is also called progesterone, progesterone, progesterone, progesterone, progestin or progesterone. It is a steroid involved in female menstrual cycle, pregnancy and affects the embryos of humans and other animals. It is produced by the corpus luteum of the ovary in early pregnancy. During pregnancy, progesterone is an important hormone that supports the early growth and development of the fetus. High concentrations of progesterone have a significant calming effect on the enlarged uterus and are also very important for supporting early pregnancy.

During pregnancy, hCG stimulates the corpus luteum to produce progesterone; during weeks 7 to 9, this gradually transitions to the production of the placenta, also known as corpus luteum placental transfer; during weeks 10 to 11, the production of progesterone by the placenta increases significantly, at which time the trophoblastic cells of the placenta take over from the corpus luteum to produce progesterone and maintain the pregnancy. Progesterone testing during pregnancy is mainly used to understand the function of the corpus luteum, whether the ovaries have ovulated, and the status of pregnancy.
