The hymen is a physiological phenomenon unique to women. It is also called urethral valve or vaginal valve. It is located 3-4 cm away from the vaginal opening. Under normal circumstances, when girls engage in some strenuous exercise or some external stimulation, the hymen may rupture. However, the physical condition of each girl is different. Many girls have thicker hymens that will not rupture easily.
The vaginal opening is located in the diamond-shaped space between the labia minora on both sides - the posterior part of the vaginal vestibule. Its shape and size vary greatly from person to person. If the vaginal opening is narrow, it often causes difficulty in sexual intercourse. There is also a circular mucosal fold at the vaginal opening of a virgin called the hymen. This thin film-like tissue contains connective tissue, blood vessels and nerve endings, which can partially close the vagina. The inner edge of the hymen is sharp and complete, and the hymen of unmarried women is light red. The hymen is usually not completely sealed, and there is a small hole in the middle to allow menstrual blood to flow out after puberty. The shape, size of the holes and thickness of the membrane may vary from person to person. The hymen hole of an unmarried person is generally crescent-shaped or oval, but it can also be sieve-shaped, radial-shaped, fish-mouth-shaped or other shapes. Their sizes vary, some are so small that one finger cannot pass through, while others are so large that two fingers can fit through them. The hymen is generally about 2 mm thick and usually breaks during the first sexual intercourse, but there are many exceptions. For example, some hymens are too narrow and thin and may break during exercise, vibration, or placement of menstrual plugs.
Females will have menstruation after they reach sexual maturity, and menstrual blood is discharged from the body through the hole in the hymen. If there is no such hole in the hymen, menstrual blood cannot be discharged from the body smoothly. This phenomenon is medically called "hymen occlusion". If menstrual blood accumulates in the vagina for a long time, it can flow upward into the uterine cavity, fallopian tubes, and even into the abdominal cavity, causing abdominal infection and abdominal pain.
Generally speaking, to determine whether the hymen is ruptured, it is necessary to be examined by a professional gynecologist. It is difficult for women to determine whether the hymen is broken, and even for men who have sexual intercourse with them. Most men and women often use vaginal bleeding to determine whether a woman's hymen is ruptured. In fact, this method is unscientific, because there are many other reasons that cause vaginal bleeding in women, such as vaginitis, uterine fibroids, etc. In addition, some women's hymen ruptures with very little bleeding, and the bleeding does not necessarily flow out of the vagina. |
