What is the cause of heavy bleeding during cesarean section?

This symptom of heavy bleeding should be taken seriously, because if there is too much bleeding, it will cause many problems and may even cause death. There are many reasons for this situation, and heavy bleeding may also occur during a caesarean section, but many people do not know the specific cause. So what is the cause of heavy bleeding during caesarean section?

Poor uterine contraction: Postpartum hemostasis depends on the contraction of the uterus. If the uterus does not contract well, heavy bleeding is likely to occur.

Wound lacerations: Childbirth will inevitably cause some wounds, whether it is a natural birth or a caesarean section. Sometimes the wound is deep in the vagina or in the lower half of the uterus and is not easy to be noticed, so it is difficult to stop the bleeding completely and the chance of heavy bleeding will increase.

Part of the placenta remains in the body: If the placenta is not delivered after delivery and continues to remain in the body, it will also cause bleeding. When the placenta is too tightly attached to the uterine wall to be delivered on its own (for example, placenta accreta), doctors may reach into the uterus and remove the placenta, although this may rarely cause increased bleeding.

Abnormal coagulation mechanism: Some people are born with abnormal coagulation factors. If the body cannot easily coagulate blood, there will be greater risks during childbirth.

For women with heavy postpartum bleeding, the uterus should be kept in a contracted state as much as possible. Once the uterus becomes hard (indicating it is contracting), it can stop bleeding.

Once it softens, it may bleed. It is very important to massage the uterus at this stage. The mother or the accompanying family member can use a little force to massage the uterus in a circular shape until it becomes hard. It can be done clockwise or counterclockwise. After massaging until it becomes hard, you can rest for a while.

When the uterus becomes soft, massage it again and repeat the cycle. (If the amount of bleeding is not much, it is not necessary to massage the uterus.) In addition to massaging the uterus, you should also observe the amount of bleeding at all times.

For women who are more likely to have heavy bleeding, doctors will give them uterotonics to help the uterus contract within 24 hours after delivery to avoid heavy bleeding after delivery.
